Hit sound effect

The accent that marks a moment. Say how hard the front edge is, how much body sits under it, and how quickly it gets out of the way.

Hit sounds for edits, games, and animation

Designed hit

Bright at the front, tight underneath, gone almost at once. The version most edits reach for, because it marks a frame without leaving anything behind to clean up.

Wood knock

Dry, woody, and completely without depth. It reads as a real object being struck in the room with the camera, which a synthetic hit never quite does.

Metal ring

A struck plate that keeps sounding after the strike. The ring holds a pause open, so reach for it when the next shot needs a second to arrive.

Felt thump

A padded strike with the bright edge taken off it entirely. All the weight is low, which makes it land under a voice rather than across one.

Hit with a tail

The same strike with a wide reverberant tail behind it. The tail runs past the edit point, so two shots read as one continuous movement.

Triple accent

Three strikes with uneven gaps between them. The unevenness is what stops it reading as a metronome and lets it sit against a line of speech.

Ways to use a hit sound effect

Mark the frame a title arrives on

A tight accent with a fast front edge sits exactly where you place it. Anything with a slow attack reads late, whether the title is on a video or a game menu.

Hold a pause open without putting music under it

A struck plate keeps ringing while nothing is happening, so a silent gap in a podcast, a level break, or an animated pause still feels intentional.

Tell the audience how serious this is about to get

Depth carries the register. A muffled low thump under an opening line sets a heavier tone than a bright accent, in a trailer or a game cutscene alike.

Put a person working just out of frame

Uneven wooden knocks suggest somebody doing something you never show. One figure is enough to place activity beyond the edge of the shot.

الأسئلة الشائعة

How do I make a hit sound effect?
Describe the front edge, the body, and the decay. Say how bright and hard the attack is, how much low weight sits underneath it, and whether it stops dead or rings out. Those three details decide almost everything about how an accent lands.
What is the difference between a hit and an impact?
A hit is short and dry and exists to mark a frame, while an impact carries mass and is meant to sound like something arriving. If your accent is smearing across the cut, you have generated an impact and should ask for a faster decay and less low body.
Why does my hit sound like it is a frame late?
Because the attack is too soft. A sound with a gradual front edge reaches its loudest point after the picture has already moved, so no amount of nudging fixes it. Ask for a hard bright front edge and the same placement suddenly reads on time.
How do I stop a hit clashing with dialogue?
Take the bright edge off it and let the low body do the work. A muffled padded strike sits below the range speech occupies, so it can land under a line rather than across it. A bright accent needs a gap in the speech to breathe.
Should a hit have a tail on it?
Only when you want the sound to cross an edit. A tail carries past the cut point and joins two shots, which is useful for a transition and unhelpful when several accents land close together, because the tails start piling into each other.
Can I use a generated hit sound commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. It also means your accents are not the same handful of presets that ship inside every editing app and turn up in a thousand other cuts.
