What makes a deadpan cheer work?
The complete absence of energy. It has to be even in pitch with no lift at all, because any enthusiasm at all pushes it back toward a real cheer and the joke disappears.
When should I use a group rather than one voice?
When the moment is an event rather than a comment. One voice reads as the editor reacting, while three or four overlapping reads as a room full of people, which puts the audience inside the scene instead of outside it.
Why generate one instead of downloading a clip?
