Why does my rattle sound like a maraca?
The prompt named the sound instead of the mechanism. Ask for many tiny hollow segments shaking against each other, and say dry explicitly. A maraca has beads inside a shell, which is a rounder and wetter sound.
How do I show the snake getting more agitated?
Speed. A rattle that starts slow and accelerates into a fast buzz reads as an animal deciding you are a threat, where a rattle already at full speed reads as a fixed state.
What is the difference between this and the snake page?
The snake page is hiss and slither, which every snake does. The rattle is a specific organ on a specific animal, and no clip transfers between the two.
Should I layer the hiss under the rattle?
Yes, if you want the animal to read as large. A rattle alone sounds small and mechanical; adding a slow steady hiss underneath puts a breathing body behind it.
