Punctuate the moment a foot stops
A short burst on the frame somebody freezes says everything, in a game level as much as on film.

Rattlesnake sound effects
The dry warning buzz, the slow start that builds, the short burst, the hiss underneath it, and the strike. Describe how close the animal is and Morphic builds the warning.
- Ask for the speed of the rattle, which is what tells an audience how alarmed the animal is
- A warning cut for your shot rather than a stock rattle already used across other productions
- Download clean audio and drop it straight into your edit
Rattlesnakes for film, games, and animation
Full rattle
Many tiny hollow segments shaking against each other, continuous and even. Dry throughout, with nothing wet or metallic in it.
Slow build
Starting slow and speeding into a fast buzz. The acceleration is what tells the audience the animal has noticed them.
Short burst
A two-second warning that starts and stops abruptly. Use it on a cut where the full rattle would overstay.
Distant rattle
Thinner and further off, with the dry edge softened. Places the animal somewhere in the scene rather than at your feet.
Hiss
Air forced out slowly by a breathing animal, dry and even. Layer it under a rattle and the snake reads as much larger.
Strike
A fast rush through dry grass ending in one soft impact. Over in under a second, which is the point.

Ways to use a rattlesnake sound effect
Fill a standoff without music
A full rattle carries four seconds of nobody moving, and it keeps the tension inside the scene rather than in a score.
Editar prompt
Tell the audience how close it is
A thin distant rattle reads as somewhere out there. A fast dry one at full brightness reads as right here. Only the sound changes.
Editar prompt
Put the snake beyond the frame
A rattle under a close-up puts the animal just outside the shot, which is safer and cheaper than showing one.

Perguntas frequentes
Why does my rattle sound like a maraca?
The prompt named the sound instead of the mechanism. Ask for many tiny hollow segments shaking against each other, and say dry explicitly. A maraca has beads inside a shell, which is a rounder and wetter sound.
How do I show the snake getting more agitated?
Speed. A rattle that starts slow and accelerates into a fast buzz reads as an animal deciding you are a threat, where a rattle already at full speed reads as a fixed state.
What is the difference between this and the snake page?
The snake page is hiss and slither, which every snake does. The rattle is a specific organ on a specific animal, and no clip transfers between the two.
Should I layer the hiss under the rattle?
Yes, if you want the animal to read as large. A rattle alone sounds small and mechanical; adding a slow steady hiss underneath puts a breathing body behind it.
How do I place the snake at a distance?
Thin it out and take the sharp edge off. Distance removes high frequencies first, so a faint soft rattle reads as far away far more convincingly than simply turning the volume down.
Can I use these in a game or a monetised video?
Yes. Audio generated on a paid Morphic plan is cleared for commercial use, including games, film, and monetised video.
