Anime sound effects

The grammar of the medium: the freeze-frame impact, the sword leaving its sheath, the power charging, the speed line, the sparkle on a reaction shot. Generate them for your scene.

  • Ask for the exact hit, draw, or charge your shot needs, at the length the animation runs
  • A stylised set made for your project, with nothing lifted from a show somebody else made
  • Download clean audio and drop it straight into your edit

Stylised sounds for animation, games, and edits

Impact hit

A hard metallic crack with an instant attack and a short ring. The sound that holds a freeze frame, and the one the whole style is built around.

Sword draw

Metal sliding free and ending on a clean high ring. The ring after the slide is what makes it read as stylised rather than as real steel.

Power charging

A steady climb in pitch and volume with a crackle over it. Run it long, because the wait is what makes the release worth cutting to.

Energy release

The discharge at the end of the charge, a bright burst dropping into a low roll. Cut the charge straight into it with no gap between the two.

Speed line

A sharp rush past camera with the pitch dropping as it goes. Use it on any movement fast enough that the drawing blurs.

Reaction sparkle

A small run of bright glassy tones climbing away. The tiny sound that lands on a blush, a realisation, or a character noticing something.

Ways to use anime sound effects

Punctuate a hit or a freeze frame

Land the impact on the frame the animation holds. In a game a stylised crack on a critical hit does the same job as a damage number, with better timing.

Fill a standoff without music

A charge running under two characters staring at each other holds the tension for several seconds, so the scene does not need a track to carry it.

Tell the audience how fast something moved

A speed line with a doppler drop says the movement was too quick to follow, which lets you cut past animation you never had to draw.

Show a reaction the face does not

A sparkle on a still frame tells the audience what a character is feeling without redrawing the expression or adding a line of dialogue.

SSS

What makes a sound effect sound like anime rather than live action?
Brightness and ring. A realistic impact is a dull thud; the stylised version is a hard metallic crack with a short ringing tail. Asking for that tail is usually the single change that shifts a sound into the style.
How do I get the charge-up and the release to line up?
Generate them as two clips and butt them together with no gap. A charge that climbs steadily with no break lets you cut on any frame, which is easier than trying to time one long clip to the animation.
Are these from any particular show?
No. They are the conventions of the medium generated from scratch, which is the point: nothing here is lifted from a production, so nothing here carries somebody else claim into your project.
How is this different from the Japanese sound effects page?
That page covers the everyday sounds of a place. This one covers the stylised grammar of animation, the impact freeze, the sword ring, the speed line, none of which exist as real recordings.
Why does my sword draw sound like a kitchen knife?
The prompt described the slide but not the finish. Add "ending in a clean high shing" and ask for the ring to be long and bright, since the ring after the metal leaves the sheath is what separates the two.
Can I use these in a game or a monetised video?
Yes. Audio generated on a paid Morphic plan is cleared for commercial use, including games, monetised video, and animation you sell or license.
