The moment a boot breaks the crust
One deliberate crunch marks an arrival better than a sting does, which is why cold openings and side-scrolling games both lean on it.

Snow Foley
The crunch and squeak of snow an edit needs: a footstep in fresh powder, a snowball packed tight, a shovel scraped across a path. Describe the one your shot is missing and Morphic generates it in seconds.
- Match the snow to the weather, dry powder that squeaks, wet slush, or a frozen crust that breaks underfoot.
- Steps captured for your character's weight and boots, instead of the shared winter library everyone else already owns.
- Delivered as isolated hits you can line up frame by frame against the walk in your timeline.
Snow sounds for video, games, and animation
Footstep crunch
A single compressing step in fresh snow, clean enough to place on any frame you like.
Walking in snow
A steady stretch of paced steps, ready to lay under a whole travelling shot.
Snowball pack
Two gloved hands squeezing and shaping snow, the small sound just before a throw.
Shovel scrape
Metal dragging across a buried path, with the grit of concrete coming through underneath.
Body drop
Someone landing flat in deep powder, a soft, muffled thud with loose snow spraying.
Icy crust step
A brittle top layer cracking before the boot sinks, sharper and colder than fresh powder.

Ways to use snow foley
When a wordless walk needs something under it
Across a silent walking shot, steady steps give the edit its pulse; animatics and narrated stories use the same trick to keep time moving.

Deep snow, no wind, nobody around
Slow, deep compressions with nothing else around them build an empty winter landscape for documentaries and moody game environments.

Footsteps arriving from off the path
Crunching that grows louder beyond the frame puts someone on the approach, useful for horror shorts and radio drama alike.

What is a snow foley sound effect?
It is the close, handled sound of snow: a footstep crunching into powder, a snowball packed in gloved hands, a shovel scraping a path, or a body dropping in. Foley means the small, close-recorded sounds that make a shot feel real, and snow is famous for it, because film foley artists often make the crunch with cornstarch rather than snow.
Where can I get snow sounds for a video?
Generate them rather than search for them. Describing the exact crunch or squeak you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the specific take your scene needs instead of the closest available match. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom snow sound effect?
Describe the snow, the action pressing into it, and how deep it is, then generate it. A prompt like "a slow footstep pressing into deep fresh snow, a tight crunching squeak" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until the sound fits your cut.
Why does snow squeak when you walk on it?
Fresh, cold snow squeaks because a footstep crushes and grinds the ice crystals against each other, and the colder the snow, the tighter and higher that squeak. That is the cue an audience reads as deep cold, which is why a squeaking crunch says winter far more clearly than a soft, wet crunch does.
Can I use these snow sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated rather than pulled from a shared library, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my snow sound effect not sit right in the edit?
Usually the depth is wrong rather than the sound itself. A hard, gritty crunch under a shot of soft deep powder feels off, because the ear expects the surface it can see. Say how deep the snow is and whether it has a frozen crust when you generate it, and the result sits in the scene with far less mixing.
