What makes a moth drawing read as a moth and not a butterfly?
Three things. Moths have feathered or comb-like antennae rather than clubbed ones, a thicker furred body, and they rest with the wings held flat or roofed over the back instead of upright. Name any two and the insect reads correctly.
How do I draw a moth symmetrically?
Draw one wing well, then mirror it. Ask for a perfectly symmetrical specimen layout with a clear central body axis, which is how entomological plates are set out. On the Canvas you can nudge the halves until the match is exact.
How do I draw moth wing patterns?
Patterns follow the wing shape, so the bands curve parallel to the outer edge and the eyespots sit between the veins. Ask for bands echoing the wing margin rather than crossing it straight, and the pattern looks grown into the wing.
How do I draw feathered antennae?
