Tracking shot prompt library on Morphic

Tested tracking shot prompts you can copy and run on Morphic. Each one explains what the parts do, so you can adapt rather than guess.

Leading a walker down a lane

A lead tracking shot travels backwards in front of a woman walking a cobbled lane, the camera moving at exactly her pace so the gap between the lens and her chest never closes and never opens, and she stays the same size in frame from the first frame to the last. She never catches the camera and the camera never pulls away. The stone walls and doorways behind her change completely across the move. Overcast light with wet cobbles, a palette of grey stone, dark wool and one red door. 35mm, one continuous take. Even walking pace. About 8 seconds, no loop. <footsteps on wet stone, a distant gull>. No music.

Over a shoulder through a market

An over the shoulder tracking shot trails a shopper through a covered market, the camera held just behind and to the right so her shoulder stays anchored in the lower right corner of frame and never leaves it and never swings to the front. The stalls she passes are all different, so the frame ahead of her changes completely between the first frame and the last, while her shoulder holds its position. Shaded daylight under a glass roof with warm stall lamps, a palette of canvas cream, produce green and warm amber. 35mm, one continuous take, slight handheld breathe. About 8 seconds, no loop. <market chatter, crates, a till>. No music.

Edit prompt

Arcing around a walking man

An arcing tracking shot circles a man as he walks steadily across an empty car park, the camera travelling with him and swinging from behind his left shoulder round to his right side, so he is seen from the back at the first frame and in full profile at the last while never once stopping or slowing his walk. The camera keeps the same distance from him throughout the arc. Flat overcast light with a wet surface, a palette of grey concrete, dark coat and pale sky. 35mm, one continuous take. Even arc combined with an even travel. About 8 seconds, no loop. <footsteps, a distant road>. No music.

Edit prompt

A track picks him up

A tracking shot begins completely static on an empty stretch of promenade railing, holding still for a beat so nothing moves at the first frame. A cyclist enters from the left, and as he reaches the centre the camera starts moving with him and holds him centred for the rest of the clip, never falling behind and never stopping again. The railing and the sea beyond stream past by the last frame. Bright hazy coastal light, a palette of white railing, grey sea and warm paving. 50mm, one continuous take. Static, then a smooth pick up to matched speed. About 8 seconds, no loop. <wind, gulls, tyres>. No music.

Edit prompt

A tray through the pass

A tracking shot follows a loaded tray carried through a busy service kitchen, the camera locked to the tray so it stays the same size and in the same part of frame throughout, never reframing up to the waiter's face and never letting the tray leave the centre. The kitchen behind changes from the pass to a doorway to a dining room across the move. Hard overhead service light with warm dining light arriving at the end, a palette of steel, white plate and warm amber. 35mm, one continuous take, slight handheld. About 8 seconds, no loop. <kitchen calls, plates, extraction fans>. No music.

Edit prompt

Leading along a promenade

A lead tracking shot travels backwards in front of a man pushing himself along a seafront promenade, the camera at his eye level and never rising to a standing height, holding the same distance so he stays the same size in frame from the first frame to the last. His hands keep driving the rims and he never catches up to the lens. The railing, a shelter and a bench pass behind him. Bright hazy sea light with a cool cast, a palette of white railing, grey green sea and a navy jacket. 35mm, one continuous take. Even matched pace. About 8 seconds, no loop. <wheels on paving, wind, gulls>. No music.

Edit prompt

Down a stairwell behind her

A tracking shot follows a woman down a tiled stairwell, the camera descending in one smooth glide with no step by step bobbing, holding a constant distance behind her so her back stays the same size in frame from the first frame to the last. She turns at two landings and the camera turns with her without ever losing her or drawing level. Three floor numbers pass on the wall across the move. Cold strip light on each landing with dark treads between, a palette of institutional green, cold white and dark coat. 24mm, one continuous take. Constant descent. About 10 seconds, no loop. <footsteps echoing, a door far below>. No music.

Edit prompt

Following a runner on a towpath

A follow tracking shot runs behind a man jogging along a canal towpath, the camera holding a constant distance at the height of his shoulder blades and never drawing level with him and never falling back. His back fills the same part of frame at the first frame and the last while the water, a moored boat and a bridge arch pass behind him. Low morning sun from the left throwing his shadow onto the path ahead, a palette of muddy green, warm brick and cold sky. 35mm, one continuous take. Steady running pace with a slight rise and fall. About 8 seconds, no loop. <breathing, feet on gravel, water>. No music.

Edit prompt

At wheel height beside a board

A low mounted tracking shot runs beside a skateboard at axle height, the camera a hand's width off the tarmac and holding the front wheel in the same part of frame throughout, never rising to find the rider and never falling behind the board. The wheel spins at a constant rate while the road surface, a drain cover and a painted line rush past underneath, so the ground at the first frame and the last is completely different. Hard afternoon sun with the board's shadow running alongside, a palette of grey tarmac, red urethane and white paint. 24mm, one continuous take. Constant speed, very close to the ground. About 6 seconds, no loop. <urethane on tarmac, a distant road>. No music.

Edit prompt

Through a doorway with him

A tracking shot follows a chef from a dim prep room into a lit kitchen, the camera holding the same distance behind him and passing through the doorway after him rather than stopping at it, so the doorframe crosses the lens and leaves the frame entirely. The prep room fills the frame at the first frame and the working kitchen fills it at the last, and the exposure lifts as the camera crosses. He never looks back. Dim tungsten behind, bright cool service light ahead, a palette of warm brown, stainless steel and cold white. 24mm, one continuous take, slight handheld. About 8 seconds, no loop. <a door swinging, a busy kitchen>. No music.

Edit prompt

A track hands off to a stranger

A tracking shot travels with a woman crossing a station concourse, holding her in the left of frame, until a porter pushing a trolley crosses in front of her from the right. At that moment the camera abandons her completely and travels with the porter instead, holding the trolley in frame for the rest of the shot, and she is out of frame and not returned to by the end. The camera never reverses and never stops moving. Overhead station light with a cool cast, a palette of grey terrazzo, navy uniform and warm signage. 35mm, one continuous take. About 10 seconds, no loop. <concourse noise, trolley wheels, a tannoy>. No music.

Edit prompt

The track stops, she keeps going

A tracking shot travels beside a woman walking down a narrow alley, holding her centred, and then comes to a complete stop while she keeps walking at the same pace. She is centred and full length at the first frame, walks on ahead, and has left the frame entirely by the last, which holds on an empty alley with the camera completely still. The camera never resumes following her. Late light down the alley mouth with the walls in shade, a palette of soot brick, dark denim and one wedge of gold. 35mm, one continuous take. Even travel, one clean stop. About 8 seconds, no loop. <footsteps receding, a city hum>. No music.

Edit prompt

Alongside a narrowboat

A tracking shot travels along a canal bank exactly matching the speed of a moving narrowboat, the camera holding the boat in the same part of frame with the same gap throughout and never drifting ahead of the bow or behind the stern. The reeds and moored boats on the near bank streak past between the lens and the water, so the foreground at the first frame and the last is completely different while the boat is unchanged. Flat afternoon light, a palette of dark green water, painted red trim and reed gold. 50mm, one continuous take. Constant matched speed. About 8 seconds, no loop. <a slow diesel engine, water>. No music.

Edit prompt

A hand along a handrail

A tracking shot travels along a brass handrail at the exact speed of a hand sliding down it, the camera holding the hand in the centre of frame and never reframing up to the person's face and never letting the hand leave the rail. The rail runs continuously through the shot with brackets and a joint passing beneath the fingers, so the section of rail at the first frame and the last is completely different. Warm interior light with a bright specular running along the brass, a palette of warm brass, dark wood panel and skin. 50mm, one continuous take. Constant glide. About 6 seconds, no loop. <skin on metal, a stairwell hum>. No music.

Edit prompt

Alongside a slowing carriage

A tracking shot runs along a station platform matched to a single train carriage as it comes in, the camera holding one window in the same part of frame while both slow together and never letting that window drift forward or back. Both are moving at the first frame and both are completely stationary at the last, with the window still framed exactly as it was. Passengers behind the glass become still as it stops. Cool platform light under a canopy, a palette of livery green, cold glass and grey concrete. 50mm, one continuous take. A matched deceleration to a full stop. About 10 seconds, no loop. <brakes, a platform announcement>. No music.

Edit prompt

Parallel to a cyclist

A profile tracking shot runs exactly parallel to a cyclist riding from left to right along a coast road, both the rider and the camera travelling left to right and never backwards, so the hedgerow behind him streaks from right to left across the frame. His cranks turn forwards and his wheels roll forwards for the whole clip, never freewheeling backwards and never reversing. The camera holds him in full side view with the same gap and the same height, never swinging in front of him and never drifting behind, so his body is at the same angle to the lens at the first frame and the last. Hard low sun from behind the camera, a palette of sun bleached tarmac, hedge green and one hit of orange jersey. 50mm, one continuous take. Constant forward speed with flat parallax. About 6 seconds, no loop. <wind, a freewheel, tyres on tarmac>. No music.

Edit prompt

Straight down on a swimmer

An overhead tracking shot looks straight down on a swimmer in a lane, the camera directly above her and travelling with her so she stays centred in frame throughout, never tilting to an angle and never drifting off the lane. She holds a steady front crawl. The lane rope beneath her runs continuously through frame, and the tiled T mark that is out of shot at the first frame has passed underneath her by the last. Bright even pool light with hard caustics on the floor, a palette of chlorine blue, white tile and dark swimsuit. 35mm, one continuous take. Constant travel. About 6 seconds, no loop. <water, breathing, a pool hall echo>. No music.

Edit prompt

Matching a horse across a field

A tracking shot runs level with a chestnut horse galloping across a stubble field, the camera parallel and matching its pace so the whole animal from nose to tail and all four legs stay inside the frame at every moment, never clipping and never sliding to one edge. The tree line behind him at the first frame is fully replaced by a different one at the last. Hard low evening sun from behind the camera lighting the flank, a palette of chestnut, stubble gold and deep blue shadow. 85mm, one continuous take. Constant matched speed. About 6 seconds, no loop. <hooves on dry ground, breathing, wind>. No music.

Edit prompt

Trailing a dog at knee height

A tracking shot follows a terrier trotting along a woodland path, the camera at the height of the dog's shoulder and holding that height for the whole clip, never rising to a human eyeline and never dropping to the ground. The dog stays the same size in frame from the first frame to the last while roots, leaf litter and a fallen branch pass underneath and behind it. Dappled light through the canopy moving across its back, a palette of wiry tan, damp brown and leaf green. 35mm, one continuous take. Brisk trotting pace with a small bounce. About 6 seconds, no loop. <paws on leaf litter, a collar tag, birdsong>. No music.

Edit prompt

One face held in a crowd

A tracking shot moves through a dense pedestrian crowd holding one woman in a mustard coat centred in frame the whole time, the camera travelling with her and never switching to anyone else and never letting her be hidden for more than a moment. Strangers cross between the lens and her repeatedly, and she is still centred and sharp at the last frame. The street behind her changes completely across the move. Overcast light with wet paving, a palette of grey coats, mustard wool and dull brick. 50mm, one continuous take, slight handheld. About 8 seconds, no loop. <crowd noise, footsteps, a distant busker>. No music.

Preguntas frecuentes

How do I use these tracking shot prompts?
Pick any prompt, copy it, and paste it into Morphic. Each one opens with where the camera sits relative to the subject, so the model reads the relationship before the scene. Change the subject and the move still tracks.
What makes a tracking shot different from a dolly or a pan?
A tracking shot is defined by the subject, not by the rig. The camera travels in order to hold a constant relationship to something that is moving, so the framing stays the same while the background changes. A dolly is a straight travel regardless of what is in front of it, and a pan does not travel at all.
Why does my camera fall behind the subject?
Because the prompt says follow rather than saying what must stay constant. Name the gap and say it does not change: the same distance, the same height, the same part of the frame. Adding what must not happen, such as never falling behind and never overtaking, is what holds it.
How long should a tracking shot run?
Long enough for the background to change, which is the only evidence that the camera travelled. Six to eight seconds covers most walking moves, and ten suits a longer run through a space with several landmarks passing.
Can I use the videos commercially?
The prompts here describe original locations and fictional subjects, so what you generate is yours to use. Avoid prompting for real logos, trademarks, or a living person's likeness, and keep your final use in line with Morphic's terms.
