Start the message the second they press play
A play clunk on the exact frame a finger hits the button makes a recorded message land, in a thriller, a game puzzle or an animated short.

Take the audience back to a bedroom in the past
A tape slotting into a deck sets an earlier decade before any set dressing, in a period film, a retro game, an animation or an audio memoir.

Hint at a tape someone is hiding
An eject behind a closed door says someone just took the evidence, so your film, game or audio story never has to show who.

Preguntas frecuentes
What is a cassette sound effect?
It is a recording of a cassette tape and its player in action: a tape being inserted, buttons pressed, spools whirring through a rewind or blank tape hissing as it plays. These mechanical sounds instantly place a scene in an earlier era or around a recorded message.
Where can I get cassette sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the deck action you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact clunk or whir your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom cassette sound effect?
Describe the player and the action, then generate it. A prompt like "a cassette player eject button pressed, a spring-loaded clunk as the door swings open" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a play clunk, a rewind whir and a tape stop?
A play clunk is the button and motor catching as playback starts; a rewind whir is the spools spinning fast with the tape off the head; and a tape stop is music slowing down in pitch as playback dies. The first two are the machine, the third is the audio on the tape, so they cover different jobs in a scene.
Can I use these cassette sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my cassette sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the button press sounds too clean and close for the shot. A deck seen across a room should sound smaller than one in a close-up of a finger on the button, so describe the distance and the player, a desk deck or a handheld recorder, and the clunk sits in the scene.
