Industrial sound effects

Machines rather than rooms: a hydraulic press, a conveyor starting up, steam released, a heavy metal shutter, and the klaxon that stops everything.

  • Ask for one machine doing one thing, which is what separates a mechanism from a room
  • Audio built for your scene rather than a stock factory bed used across other productions
  • Download clean audio and drop it straight into your edit
Industrial sound effects

Machine sounds for film, games, and animation

Hydraulic press

A slow pressurised hiss closing on a heavy impact. Two events in one clip, and the hiss before it is what gives the impact weight.

Conveyor starting

A motor whining up then settling into a steady roll. The settle is what tells the audience it is now running.

Steam release

A sharp burst through a narrow valve, tapering fast. Small, sudden, and it punctuates a scene better than an impact.

Metal shutter

Corrugated metal rolling up with a rattling clatter and a hard stop. Opens a scene in four seconds.

Klaxon

A harsh repeating horn with a flat unmusical tone. Stops work, and everyone on screen should react to it.

Machine winding down

A steady rumble slowing and dropping in pitch to a stop. The end of a shift, or something going wrong.

Ways to use an industrial sound effect

Punctuate a process finishing

A press closing on the frame something is stamped does what a cutaway would, and it works the same in a game as on film.

Fill a working scene without music

A conveyor running under dialogue gives a factory floor a floor of its own, so the scene never needs a track.

Tell the audience something changed

A klaxon stops work instantly, and a machine winding down says the same thing more quietly and more ominously.

Imply the plant beyond the frame

A shutter and a steam release place a much larger facility around a small set, without a single wide shot.

Preguntas frecuentes

How is this different from the factory ambience page?
Those pages are rooms, continuous beds you leave running underneath a scene. This is the machines themselves, single events with a start and a stop, which is what you cut to a frame.
How do I make a machine sound heavy?
Put something before the impact. A slow pressurised hiss ahead of a press closing gives the impact weight, where the same impact on its own reads as an object being dropped.
Why does my machine sound like it is already running?
The prompt had no start. Ask for a motor starting with a rising whine then settling, since a mechanism is defined by how it gets going as much as by how it sounds once it has.
What does a winding-down machine communicate?
More than a klaxon does. A steady rumble slowing and dropping in pitch reads as something stopping that should not be, and it does it without announcing itself.
Should the klaxon be musical?
No. Ask for flat and unmusical. A klaxon that lands on a pleasant interval stops reading as an industrial warning and starts reading as a game show.
Can I use these in a commercial project?
Yes. Audio generated on a paid Morphic plan is cleared for commercial use, including film, games, and advertising.
