Binaural

Scissors snipping in a slow circle around your head, footsteps crossing from one ear to the other and knocks right behind you. Describe the binaural sound your scene needs and Morphic generates it clean.

  • Scissors circling, steps crossing or a fly at one ear, placed where you describe
  • Movement placed for your headphone horror short or VR walkthrough
  • Clean, isolated audio to drop into a headphone edit or a VR scene

Binaural sounds for games, animation, and video edits

Circling scissors

Snips that travel slowly around your head from ear to ear, the classic headphone test and a calm relaxation clip.

Passing footsteps

Steps on a wooden floor walking past from left to right, so the listener feels someone cross the room beside them.

Fly around the head

A buzzing fly swinging from one ear to the other, for an itch-inducing gag, a VR test or a restless night scene.

Knocks behind you

Three loud knocks on a door right behind the head, the jolt that makes a headphone listener want to turn around.

Paper at each ear

A sheet of paper crinkled at the left ear and then the right, a crisp texture test for headphones and calm videos.

Fire to one side

A crackling wood fire held off to the left, a warm bed that keeps its place in space while the rest of the scene moves.

Ways to use a binaural sound effect

Make a listener turn to check behind them

Three knocks placed right behind the head make a headphone horror short or a VR game jump, with nothing on screen to explain them.

Keep a headphone video calm with no music

A fire crackling off to one side carries a long, still shot, keeping a relaxation video, a podcast break or a cosy game scene steady.

Put the listener in the barber chair

Scissors circling the head tell the audience they are sitting for a haircut, in a first-person video, an audio story or a VR scene.

Suggest someone walking past off screen

Footsteps crossing from one ear to the other place a person in the room who is never shown, useful in audio drama, games and horror video.

FAQ

What is a binaural sound effect?
It is a sound recorded or shaped to match how two ears hear, so on headphones it seems to come from a real place around you. A sound can sit behind your head, pass from left to right or circle you, which is why binaural works so well for headphone video and VR.
Where can I get binaural sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the sound and its path takes less time than digging through a stock library, and the movement your scene needs is generated for you. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom binaural sound effect?
Describe the source, where it starts and where it moves, then generate it. A prompt like "binaural recording of footsteps walking past from the left ear across to the right" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between binaural, stereo and mono sound?
Mono is one channel, so everything sits in the middle. Stereo spreads sound between a left and a right speaker, while binaural adds the cues of a real head, so on headphones a sound can also seem behind, above or close to one ear.
Can I use these binaural sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my binaural sound not sit right in the edit?
The effect only works on headphones and with the two channels kept as they are. Panning, widening or folding the clip to mono flattens the space, so leave it untouched and add only a light level change. Check it on headphones, since laptop speakers lose most of the movement.
