Perguntas frequentes
How do I draw still water so it looks flat?
Keep every mark on the surface horizontal. Reflections, ripples and the shadows under the pads all run across, never up and down, and that alone makes the water lie flat.
How do I draw a reflection in a pond?
Mirror the shapes above, then draw them slightly darker and softer than the real thing and break them with a few horizontal lines. A reflection as sharp as the object looks like a hole.
How do I draw lily pads so they sit on the surface?
Draw them as flattened ovals, wider than they are tall, with a small dark shadow touching one edge. The shadow is what pins them to the water rather than floating above it.
How do I draw a pond habitat for a school project?
Use a cross section with the water line across the middle. That way you can show roots, fish and mud below and insects, birds and reeds above in a single readable drawing.
How do I show things under the water?
Draw them with a lighter, softer line than anything above the surface, and let the water line cut cleanly across whatever crosses it. The change in line weight reads as depth.
Which medium suits a pond drawing best?
Graphite handles soft reflections well, coloured pencil carries the greens of the bank, and ink with a wash suits a lotus pond. Charcoal works if you want a low evening light.
