Preguntas frecuentes

Why do flamingo legs look like they bend backwards?
That joint is the ankle, not the knee. The knee sits high up, hidden inside the body feathers, so what you see halfway down the leg bends the way a human heel does. Drawing it as a forward-bending knee is the single most common mistake with this bird.
How do I draw the neck so it looks right?
The neck is not a smooth curve. It runs down from the head, doubles back in a shallow S and meets the body low at the shoulder. Sketch that S as a single flowing line first, then give it thickness, and the head will land in a believable place on its own.
How do I draw the beak?
The upper half is the small lid and the lower half is the deep scoop, which is the reverse of most birds. It kinks sharply downward about halfway along and the tip is darker than the base. Get that downward break in and the head reads correctly even in a rough sketch.
How do I draw feathers without drawing every one?
Group them. Draw the large wing feather shapes as a few overlapping bands and let the body be one soft mass broken only at the edges. Suggest individual feathers in two or three places, usually where the wing meets the back, and leave the rest.
How do I get a plain background for a bird drawing?
Ask for a flat white background with no water or landscape around the bird, then crop it on the Canvas. That keeps the silhouette clean enough for a print, a card or a set of matching wildlife illustrations.
Can I keep a set of bird drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the first drawing, then apply it as you generate each species so the line weight, the feather treatment and the palette stay consistent, which matters when the birds appear together in a series.
