How do I make a cheering sound effect?
Give the generator a group size and a timing instruction. Say how many people are cheering, that their voices overlap unevenly rather than in unison, and how long it runs. Group size is the single detail that decides whether it reads as a room or a stadium.
Why does my crowd cheer sound fake?
Because everyone starts at the same instant. Real groups never do, so ask explicitly for uneven, overlapping timing. That one phrase does more for believability than any amount of reverb added afterwards.
How many people should be cheering?
Match the number to what is on screen. Around ten voices reads as a room, fifty reads as a hall, and thousands reads as a stadium. A crowd larger than the location makes the audience feel the sound was borrowed from somewhere else.
Should the cheer have applause in it?
Add applause when the cheer has to sit under dialogue, and leave it out when it needs to land as a hit. Clapping fills the gaps between shouts, which makes the bed smoother but blunts the moment the cheer starts.
How do I end a cheer without it sounding cut off?
Ask for it to thin out to a few last voices rather than stopping. Most stock cheers end abruptly because they were trimmed, and an audience hears that edit immediately even when it cannot say why.
