Human sound effects

The noises a body makes when nobody is speaking: breath, throat, laughter, palms, a pulse. Describe the one your scene is missing and Morphic builds it to fit the picture.

  • Ask for the age, the effort, and how ragged the breath comes out
  • A body sound made for your shot rather than one shared across a hundred edits
  • Clean audio that sits under the dialogue already in your timeline

Human sounds for film, games, and animation

Breathing after effort

Fast ragged air moving through an open mouth, the way it does at the top of a staircase. It is the sound most edits want back once production dialogue has been cleaned of everything between the lines.

Throat clear

A rough scrape at the back of the throat, over almost before it starts. Reach for it when somebody is about to speak and the moment needs a beat of hesitation in front of the line.

Short laugh

Four quick bursts from one chest, uneven, with the breath showing on the last. A single laugh reads as a specific person, which a room of laughter never does however small you make it.

Single hand clap

Two flat palms meeting once, bright and gone. The shortest human sound on the page, and the one that lands hardest on a specific frame because there is nothing in front of the transient.

Called across a distance

One voice throwing a word out to somebody further away, with the high edge worn off it. It puts a second person in the story without casting one or writing them a line.

Heartbeat

A low double thud repeating evenly, felt more than heard. It is the one human sound that works as a bed rather than an event, so it can run under a whole stretch of picture.

Ways to use human sound effects

Mark a reaction with no words in it

A single clap or a throat clear lands on one frame and reads instantly. It punctuates a podcast cold open, a game cutscene, or an animated beat the same way.

Carry a quiet stretch without music under it

Ten seconds of ragged breathing holds a silent scene on its own. Useful when a track would tell the audience how to feel and the picture is already doing it.

Tell the audience the tension is rising

A steady pulse under picture sets the register before anything happens on screen. Horror games and animated thrillers use it exactly as film does.

Put a second person outside the frame

A word called from off camera builds somebody the audience never sees. Nothing has to be cast, animated, or lit for them to be accepted as present.

Preguntas frecuentes

What counts as a human sound effect?
Any noise a body makes that is not speech: breath, throat, laughter, hands, footsteps, a pulse. They are treated as effects rather than dialogue because they are almost always added after the fact, once production sound has been cleaned of everything between the spoken lines.
How do I make a human sound effect from a description?
Describe the mechanism instead of the feeling. Say whose body it is, which part is moving, how many times it moves, and how long the whole thing lasts. A prompt reading four quick bursts of air from one chest returns a usable laugh, while the word laughter on its own returns a room full of strangers.
Why do my scenes sound empty even with clean dialogue?
Because dialogue cleanup removes the breath and body noise along with the hiss. A performer breathes, shifts, and swallows constantly, and once all of that is gone the voice sits in a vacuum. Laying human sounds back underneath is what makes a cleaned track sound like a person again.
How do I stop a generated breath sounding like a different person?
Pin the age and the effort in the prompt, and keep them identical across every take you generate for that character. Breath is read by an audience as a physical signature, so a heavier or younger take dropped into the middle of a scene registers as a second body in the room.
Can I generate a human sound that says an actual word?
Yes, but it needs a model that can speak. A sound effects model has no word to say, so a shout or a called name routes to ElevenLabs v3 while a breath or a clap stays on a sound effects model. That is why the called sound on this page is built differently from the rest.
Can I use generated human sound effects commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Generating the breath also settles a question specific to body sounds, which is that a library recording carries a real performer whose voice may already be recognisable elsewhere.
