Old sounds for games, animation, and video edits

Rusty door hinge

A slow dry creak that rises and falls and ends in a small thud, for a door nobody has opened in years.

Dusty wall clock

Hollow wooden ticks, evenly spaced, with a faint mechanical rattle, for a clock that has run too long.

Groaning floorboard

A dry groan under one slow footstep and a small settle, for a house that remembers every step.

Brittle old book

A stiff spine cracking open and dry paper rustling, for a book left on a shelf for decades.

Rusty hand crank

A ratcheting squeak with metal grinding at each turn, for a well, a winch or a music box.

Rocking wooden chair

Dry creaking joints in a slow rhythm, for an empty chair that keeps moving.

Ways to use an old sound effect

Punctuate a character stepping into the past

A rusty hinge on the cut shows the old door was untouched for years, in a mystery short, a game level or an animation.

Keep a silent hallway alive without music

Floorboard groans between shots fill an empty house scene, in a ghost story, a horror game or a home tour.

Place the scene in an old forgotten house

A slow wall clock under the establishing shot tells the audience time has stopped here, in a film, a podcast intro or a point and click game.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is an old sound effect?
It is the sound of an aged object doing its job: a creak, a groan, a tick or a rustle. The wear in the sound, dry and rough, is what tells the audience something is old.
Where can I get old sounds for a video?
Describe the object and how it has aged, then generate it. Each of the six sounds comes from the prompt printed beside it, so you can swap the object to fit your scene.
How do I make a custom aged object sound?
Pick the object, its material and the wear. A prompt like "a rusty hand crank turned slowly, a ratcheting squeak with metal grinding" gives Morphic enough to build it.
How is this different from old man sounds?
The old man page is about a person and a voice. This one is aged objects only: hinges, clocks, floors and chairs. Use this page when the age is in the thing, not the character.
Can I use these old sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Each sound is generated for you, so it is not the same creak as other creators use.
Why does my creak sound too clean?
Fresh wood and metal sound smooth. Add dry, rusty or brittle to the prompt and ask for a slow action, since age is heard in the length of the friction.
