FAQ

How do I draw goat horns so they look right?
Horns grow back from the skull behind the eye line, not up from the forehead, and they sweep in a single curve with a slight outward twist. Draw the near horn fully and the far one shorter and thinner, because the head turn always foreshortens it. The ridges run across the horn, not along it, so keep them as short arcs.
What makes a goat look like a goat and not a sheep?
Three things: the tail points up rather than hanging down, the coat is flat and close rather than woolly, and the face has a straighter profile with a slight beard on most breeds. Fix the tail and the profile first and the drawing reads as a goat even in plain contour.
How do I draw a goat eye?
The pupil is a horizontal rectangle with rounded ends, sitting in a pale iris, and it stays level even when the head tilts. Draw it flat and wide, keep the corners soft, and leave one small highlight on the upper edge so the eye reads as wet rather than flat.
How do I suggest a goat coat without shading the whole animal?
Use short directional strokes only where the coat changes plane, along the shoulder, down the flank and under the belly, and leave the rest of the body as clean outline. On long-haired breeds break the silhouette itself into clumps instead, which does the work without any interior tone.
How do I get a plain background for a goat drawing?
Ask for a flat white background with no field or barn around the animal, then crop it on the Canvas so the hooves sit near the lower edge. That keeps the silhouette clean enough to drop into a farm label, a worksheet or a card layout.
Can I keep a whole set of goat drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the first drawing, then apply it as you generate each breed so the line weight, the coat treatment and the palette stay the same across the set. That matters if you are building a breed chart or a run of matching prints.
