Draw a ship and finish it in your browser

Describe the ship you want in Morphic's Image tool, from a full-rigged tall ship to a blunt steel cargo vessel, and get a finished drawing back. Set the hull shape, the rigging density, the line weight and the paper, adjust it on the Canvas, then download it in HD.

Ship compositions to draw

Ship on open water

One ship set low in a wide frame of open sea, drawn in pencil, the horizon kept light and the swell suggested by long broken strokes rather than detail.

Harbour with moored vessels

Three ships moored along a quay in ink contour with loose grey wash, masts overlapping and reflections drawn as broken vertical strokes below each hull.

Ship in a storm

A ship heeled over between two swells in charcoal, spray smudged across the frame and the sky worked dark so the pale sails carry the composition.

Nautical blueprint elevation

A flat side elevation of a hull with waterline and deck levels marked as fine pen rules, pastel tone laid behind it so the drawing reads as a plan sheet.

FAQ

How do I draw a ship so the hull sits properly in the water?
Draw the waterline as a single straight line across the hull first, then push a little water up against the bow. A hull that meets the sea with no disturbance looks pasted on, however accurate the rest of the drawing is.
How do I draw rigging without it turning into scribble?
Draw the standing rigging first, the few thick lines holding each mast, and only then add a handful of thinner running lines. Ask for fewer ropes than the real ship carries. Crowded rigging is the fastest way to lose the silhouette.
How do I draw sails so they look full of wind?
Curve each sail away from the mast in the same direction and let the lower edge bow outward. Ask for one or two soft creases running from the corners. Flat rectangular sails read as paper no matter how good the ship underneath is.
What is the difference between drawing a ship and a boat?
Scale and structure. A ship has multiple decks, masts or a superstructure and reads as tall against the water. A boat is a single open hull. Name which you want, because the two prompts produce very different silhouettes.
Can I get a ship drawing as a clean outline for a logo or a print?
Ask for flat vector line art with an even stroke, no shading and a plain white background, and cut the rigging back hard. That version stays legible when scaled down for a label, a crest or a nautical poster.
Can I draw the same ship from several angles?
Use Style Transfer to hold one drawing style, then generate the ship side-on, bow-on and from a high three-quarter. Only the angle changes in the prompt, so the hull and rig stay consistent across the set.
