The first stone that hits the windscreen
One heavy strike ahead of the downpour makes the storm land as an event. Cue it to the impact in a feature, an advert, or a driving sequence.
Edit prompt
Hail
The hard, clattering rattle of ice a sudden storm needs, ready to play: pellets on metal, glass, cars, and pavement. Describe the one your shot is missing and Morphic generates it in seconds.
- Choose the surface and the stone size, fine ice on tarmac, or golf balls landing on sheet metal.
- A storm made for your scene rather than a weather clip that has already rained on a hundred other projects.
- Clean, evenly paced takes with no thunder or voices buried inside them, so you keep control of the storm.
Hail sounds for film, games, and animation
Hail on a roof
A broad, resonant drumming from above with the room's own tone in it. The natural bed for any interior scene during a storm.
Hail on a car
Bright metallic hits with real force behind them, plus the odd louder strike. It raises the stakes for anyone sheltering in a vehicle.
Hail on pavement
Small stones bouncing and skittering on concrete, dense and busy. Perfect for street-level shots and a character caught out walking.
Hail on glass
Sharp, ringing taps against a window pane, close and slightly brittle. Use it when the storm is watched from inside rather than felt.
Fine hail
Tiny pellets arriving fast, closer to a hiss than a hammering. Good for the start of a squall, or cold weather that hasn't turned violent yet.
Heavy stones
Large, slow, punishing impacts with gaps between them. The version to reach for when the storm is meant to break things.

Ways to use a hail sound effect
When characters are stuck inside waiting it out
People trapped indoors need something over their heads. A steady drum on the roof carries long stretches of dialogue in drama and audio fiction.
Edit prompt
A storm that arrived out of nowhere
Ice bouncing off pavement and metal switches a scene from ordinary rain to something genuinely threatening, in live action and animation alike.

Weather doing damage outside the room
Stones battering glass beyond a closed curtain keep the storm enormous while the camera stays on one face, cheap for film, easy for radio plays.

FAQ
What is a hail sound effect?
It is the hard, clattering sound of ice pellets striking a surface, drier and sharper than rain because the stones are solid and bounce. Its character depends entirely on what it hits, from a loud rattle on a metal roof to a bouncing clatter on pavement to a brittle click on glass.
Where can I get hail sounds for a video?
Generate them rather than search for them. Describing the hailstorm you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the specific take your scene needs instead of the closest available match. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom hail sound effect?
Describe what the hail strikes, how big the stones are, and how close you are, then generate it. A prompt like "hail hammering a metal roof, hard ice pellets clattering and rattling on sheet metal, continuous" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between hail and heavy rain?
Hail is solid ice, so it strikes hard and bounces, giving a dry clatter of individual clicks and pings with a sharp attack. Heavy rain is water, so it splatters into a continuous hiss with no bounce. That bounce and click is what tells the audience the storm is dropping ice rather than water, even before they see it.
Can I use these hail sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated rather than pulled from a shared library, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my hail sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually it sounds too much like rain rather than ice. If the take is a soft continuous wash, it reads as a downpour, not hail. Ask for hard pellets clicking and bouncing with a sharp attack when you generate it, and name the surface they hit, and the clatter reads unmistakably as ice against the picture.
