Jump scare effect

A calm, quiet shot holds just long enough, then a figure bursts into frame, appears in a mirror or flashes out of the dark.

A jagged burst of white light tearing open a pitch black frame with a smeared streak lunging toward the viewer

Jump scare effect examples

Wardrobe door reveal

Gunakan prompt ini

A man closes a wardrobe and a figure is standing where the door had been. A wide shot of a quiet bedroom at night lit by a bedside lamp. An adult man in a plain t-shirt opens a tall wardrobe door, looks inside at the empty hanging rail, and swings the door shut. As the door closes, a pale figure in a long dark coat is suddenly standing right beside him in the gap where the open door had been, close enough to touch. He has not noticed yet. The lamp, the bed and the wardrobe stay unchanged. Camera locked off, wide and level. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Flashlight in the woods

Gunakan prompt ini

A flashlight sweeps an empty path until a robed figure charges into the beam. A wide night shot of a narrow forest path lit only by a single flashlight beam sweeping slowly across tree trunks and fallen leaves. For the first seconds the woods are calm and empty. Then a pale figure in tattered grey robes rushes out from behind a thick tree trunk into the flashlight beam and charges straight at the camera, its face and reaching hands filling the frame. The trees and the path stay unchanged. Handheld camera that jerks back on the scare. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Flicker on the basement stairs

Gunakan prompt ini

Each time the bulb flickers back on, the robed figure is closer. A dark basement stairwell seen from the top step, one bare bulb hanging over the stairs. The bulb flickers off into near darkness, then flashes back on hard and bright for a split second, and in that flash a pale figure in a torn grey robe is standing on the bottom step where nothing stood before, then the light cuts out again and flashes on with the figure two steps closer. The walls and railing stay unchanged between flashes. The camera is locked off looking down the stairs. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Camera flash approach

Gunakan prompt ini

Each flash freezes the bedroom with the hooded figure one step nearer. A pitch dark bedroom lit only by bursts from a camera flash. Each hard white flash freezes the room for an instant: the bed, the wardrobe, the window. In the first flash a tall gaunt figure in a dark hooded robe stands far away by the wardrobe. In the next flash it stands at the foot of the bed. In the last flash its grey hollow-eyed face under the hood is right in front of the lens filling the frame. Darkness between flashes. The furniture stays in the same place in every flash. Static camera. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Hallway lunge

Gunakan prompt ini

An empty corridor holds still, then a hooded figure lunges into the lens. A dim narrow apartment hallway at night lit by one warm wall lamp. For the first seconds the corridor is completely calm and still, empty floorboards, a closed door at the far end. Then a pale gaunt figure in a long dark hooded coat bursts out of a side doorway and lunges straight at the lens in one fast motion, its outstretched hands filling the frame. The camera is locked off at chest height and jolts slightly on the impact. The lamp, the walls and the far door stay unchanged. Cinematic horror lighting, PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Pan back to the armchair

Gunakan prompt ini

The camera pans away from an empty chair and returns to find it occupied. A dark living room at night lit only by blue moonlight from a window. The camera pans slowly left across the room past an empty worn armchair, a lamp and a bookshelf, then pans back right to the armchair. Now a pale gaunt figure in a dark hooded coat is sitting in the armchair, perfectly still, staring straight into the lens. Everything else in the room is exactly as before. Slow, quiet camera move, then a sudden stop on the figure. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Corridor lights cut out

Gunakan prompt ini

Office lights shut off row by row until a figure stands in the last flicker. A wide shot down a long empty office corridor lit by rows of ceiling lights. The lights shut off one row at a time, starting at the far end and moving toward the camera, plunging each section into darkness. In the brief flicker of the last row, a pale figure in a dark coat is suddenly standing right in front of the lens, filling the frame, then darkness. The walls and doors stay unchanged. Camera locked off at the end of the corridor. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Mirror cabinet reveal

Gunakan prompt ini

The cabinet door swings shut and a pale face is waiting in the mirror. A small bathroom at night under a single bulb. An adult woman in a plain grey sweater, seen from behind at the sink, swings a mirrored cabinet door closed. As the mirror swings into place it reveals, in the reflection, a pale gaunt figure in a dark hood with a grey face standing directly behind her shoulder, clearly visible in the mirror and lit by the bulb. She freezes with her hand on the cabinet. The camera holds steady over her shoulder on the mirror. The sink, tiles and towel stay unchanged. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Face at the kitchen window

Gunakan prompt ini

A quiet moment at the sink breaks when pale faces press against the glass. A wide shot of a kitchen at night. An adult man in a plain sweater stands at the sink rinsing a cup, facing a large dark window over the sink that shows only his own faint reflection and the black garden outside. For a few calm seconds nothing happens. Then a pale gaunt face under a dark hood presses suddenly against the glass right in front of him from outside, its grey hands flat on the pane. He jerks back and drops the cup. The kitchen stays unchanged. Static camera from behind his shoulder. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

Scarecrow lunge

Gunakan prompt ini

A still scarecrow at dusk snaps forward off its post toward the camera. A scarecrow made of burlap and straw stands on a wooden post in a dry cornfield at dusk under an orange sky. For the first seconds it hangs perfectly still while the corn stalks sway gently in the wind. Then the scarecrow suddenly snaps its head up and lunges forward off the post straight toward the camera, its straw arms reaching for the lens and filling the frame. The camera is static at eye level and shakes on the impact. The corn and the sky stay unchanged. PG-13, no blood, no readable text, no logos.

FAQ

How do I add a jump scare effect to my own video?
Upload your clip to Morphic and describe the scare in plain words: what appears, where it lands and how fast. Morphic edits an existing video from a written instruction. Then open the cut in Compose to trim the calm beat, place the reveal and lay a stinger sound on the exact frame.
What is a jump scare effect?
A jump scare is a calm, quiet shot that breaks without warning: a figure lunges at the camera, appears in a mirror, or is suddenly closer when the light comes back. The effect works through contrast, so the seconds of stillness before the reveal matter as much as the reveal.
How long should the calm beat before a jump scare be?
Two to four seconds of stillness is usually enough for a short clip. Hold the frame steady, keep the sound low and give the eye one place to rest, a doorway, a mirror or an empty chair. Cutting to the scare before the viewer settles takes most of the jolt out of it.
How do I add a stinger sound to a jump scare?
Generate a short stinger from a text description, a sharp hit, a string screech or a low boom, then place it on the reveal frame in Compose. Starting the sound a frame or two before the figure appears makes the scare feel faster. Drop the ambient sound just before the hit for extra contrast.
What is a flash cut jump scare?
A flash cut hides the approach in darkness and shows the figure only in short bursts of light, a flickering bulb, a camera flash or lights cutting out row by row. Each flash shows the figure closer than the last, so the viewer fills in the movement they never see.
Which shots work best for a jump scare effect?
Locked-off shots with depth: a long hallway, a mirror over a shoulder, a window at night, a room seen in a slow pan. A static camera makes any change easy to spot, and dark corners give the figure somewhere to come from. Busy handheld footage hides the reveal before it lands.
