SSS
What is a rubbing sound effect?
It is friction between two surfaces: hands, cloth, glass, stone or sandpaper moving against each other. It is smaller and more continuous than a scrape or a wipe.
Where can I get rubbing sounds for a video?
Describe what is touching what and generate it. Each of the six sounds here was made from its printed prompt, so you can start from one and swap the surfaces.
How do I make a custom rubbing sound?
Name the two surfaces and how hard they press, then the number of strokes. "Medium sandpaper rubbed back and forth on a plank of wood in even strokes" is enough to start.
What is the difference between rubbing and scraping?
Rubbing is gentle, repeated contact with a steady texture, like palms or fabric. Scraping is one harder drag that digs in, so choose rubbing when the action is soft and ongoing.
Can I use these rubbing sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Friction sounds are quiet, so generating your own keeps the texture matched to your picture.
Why is my rubbing sound too faint to hear?
Close friction is quiet by nature. Ask for close recording and firm pressure, and raise the clip a few decibels in the edit rather than adding words like loud to the prompt.
