Air escaping slowly and falling in pitch. For something that does not vanish so much as give up.
Heavy poof
A low round displacement with more body behind it. For something large going, where the tiny version would read as a joke.

What makes something sound like it vanished rather than broke?
Air instead of impact. A soft round puff of displaced air with no hard attack reads as a disappearance, where anything with a sharp front reads as the object being destroyed.
Where exactly should the puff land?
On the first frame the thing is gone, never the last frame it is present. A single frame early and the audience sees the sound arrive before the picture, which exposes the trick.
How do I get an appearance instead?
Reverse it. Ask for an airy sound growing backwards from nothing into a soft round stop, with no attack at the front. Same event, opposite direction.
How do I change the size of the thing that vanished?
With pitch. A small high puff reads as a coin or a note, a low full one reads as a person. Turning the same puff up just makes a small object loud.
How is this different from the magic page?
