Draw a rocket ship and finish it in your browser

Describe the rocket ship you want in Morphic's Image tool, from a simple finned cone a child could colour in to a staged launch vehicle climbing on a column of flame. Set the hull shape, the fins, the stages, the exhaust and the drawing medium, adjust the smoke and the sky on the Canvas, then download it in HD.

Launch through cloud in charcoal

A rocket punching up through a cloud deck in charcoal, the mass smudged dark around it and the exhaust lifted out as a hard bright core.

Rocket above a horizon in ink and wash

A small rocket high above a ruled curved horizon in ink line, a flat grey wash under the planet edge so the vehicle reads clearly.

Questions fréquentes

How do I draw a rocket ship that looks symmetrical?
Draw a vertical centre line first and build both sides off it, marking the same widths left and right at the nose, the shoulder and the base. Draw the fins as a set, front pair first and the back one on the centre line, so they read as evenly spaced around the body rather than stuck on flat.
How do I draw rocket exhaust and smoke?
Keep the flame and the smoke separate. The flame is a narrow, hard-edged, very bright cone right at the nozzles. The smoke is a wide, soft, rolling mass that only starts well below it and spreads sideways. Drawing one continuous plume is the most common thing that makes a launch look flat.
How do I make a rocket look like it is moving?
Tilt it slightly off vertical and put something fixed in frame, a horizon, a tower, a cloud layer, so there is a reference to move against. Let the exhaust stretch behind rather than pool below, and keep the top of the rocket crisper than the base where the vibration and the smoke are.
What is the difference between a storybook rocket and a real launch vehicle?
The storybook shape is a fat cone with big swept fins and a porthole, and it is the one most drawings default to. A real launch vehicle is a long thin cylinder with almost no fins, visible stage joints, a narrow fairing on top and a cluster of engine bells at the base. Saying which you want changes the whole silhouette.
How do I get a plain background for a rocket drawing?
Ask for a flat white background with no sky, no launch pad and no exhaust, then crop the frame on the Canvas. That gives you the vehicle on its own, which is what you need for a worksheet, a sticker sheet or a set of matching diagrams.
Can I keep a set of rocket drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the first drawing, then apply it while you generate each vehicle so the line weight, the panelling and the exhaust treatment stay the same. That is what keeps a classroom poster set or a printed series looking consistent.
