Bring the lights back with one big start

- A generator made for the night campsite in your survival short
- Clean engine audio with no wind or crew chatter, ready to lay under the shot
Generator sounds for games, animation, and video edits
Portable generator running
A steady chug with a buzzing frame rattle, the bed for a campsite, a work site or a house running on backup power.
Pull-start
Two starter-rope pulls, the second catching and sputtering to a steady chug, the moment someone brings power back by hand.
Diesel standby rumble
A deep heavy rumble with an electric hum on top, for a hospital basement, a bunker or a building on emergency power.
Bogging under load
The engine dipping low as a big load switches on, then recovering, a small sign the power is only just holding.
Backup power kicking in
A relay clunk, a crank and a catch rising to a roar, the cue for lights returning after a blackout.
Running dry and stalling
Coughing, uneven surges and silence, the sound of the last power going out in a survival or horror scene.

Ways to use a generator sound effect
Keep a long night scene going without music
A portable generator chugging away holds a quiet campsite or work scene together with no score, in video, a game or a podcast story.

Show a building running on emergency power
A deep diesel rumble tells the audience the grid is down before anyone explains it, in a disaster film, an animation or a game level.
Modifier le prompt
Warn that the power is about to fail
A generator coughing and stalling from off screen says darkness is coming, without showing the machine, in horror, games or audio drama.

Questions fréquentes
What is a generator sound effect?
It is a recording of a power generator running or changing state: a portable petrol set chugging, a large diesel standby rumbling, a pull-start, an engine bogging under load or stalling out. It tells the audience the power is local and temporary, which is why it shows up so often in blackout, survival and work scenes.
Where can I get generator sounds for a video?
Generate them on Morphic. You describe the size of the generator and what it is doing in your shot and get that take, so it matches the picture. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom generator sound effect?
Describe the generator size, the fuel and what the engine is doing, then generate it. A prompt like "a large diesel standby generator running, a deep heavy engine rumble with a steady electric hum on top" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a portable generator, a diesel standby and an inverter generator?
A portable petrol generator is a small chugging engine with a rattly frame. A diesel standby set is much larger, with a deep rumble and a steady hum, and it starts on its own when the grid fails. An inverter generator is a quieter, smoother purr, so ask for that when the sound needs to stay in the background.
Can I use these generator sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my generator sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually it is too big or too close for the shot. A small portable set heard outside should sit low and slightly muffled, and a diesel in a basement needs weight more than volume. Match the size to the machine you show and pull the level down under any dialogue.
