Stop a moment dead
A record braked by hand kills the momentum at the exact frame, the audio version of a hard freeze, and it still cuts through a loud stream highlight.

Vinyl Scratch
The turntable zip a DJ makes by dragging a record under the needle. Generate the exact scratch your edit needs, from a quick baby scratch to a full backspin, and drop it clean on the beat.
- Name the move, whether a two-beat baby scratch, a chirp or a full backspin
- Cut for your edit alone, not the same scratch pasted across every other clip
- Comes back as clean audio, ready to land on the downbeat
Vinyl scratches for video, streams, and games
Baby scratch
A record pushed back and forth in a steady wik-wik. The first move any turntablist learns, and the one people picture when they say scratch.
Forward scratch
A single decisive push of the record under the needle. Tighter and more pointed than the baby scratch, for one clean stab instead of a rhythm.
Backspin
The platter spun backwards fast, rasping up in pitch before it lets go. The transition move, yanking a cut back to the top of a phrase.
Record stop
The pitch bending down as a spinning record is braked to nothing by hand. Everything halts at once, which is why comedy edits love it.
Chirp scratch
Short and choppy, the fader cutting the record on and off mid-drag. Percussive enough to pass as real turntablism rather than a plain drag.
Transformer scratch
A slow drag chopped by the fader into fast even bursts, stuttering and robotic. It sits well over glitchy or digital cuts.

Ways to use a vinyl scratch sound effect
When a transition has no music under it
A short back-and-forth pattern hands a beatless stretch its own pulse without committing to a track. Useful across a montage or a game menu screen.

Turntables and DJ culture in one sound
A tight chirp puts crates, faders and a crowd behind whatever is on screen, colouring a whole video or podcast opener rather than punching one beat.

A DJ working the decks nearby
A backspin drifting in from off frame means there is a booth in the next room, and neither an extra location nor a cast member is needed.

Questions fréquentes
What is the vinyl scratch sound effect?
It is the gritty zip a DJ makes by moving a record back and forth under the turntable needle by hand. Turntablists use it as an instrument, from a simple baby scratch to chirps, transformers, and backspins, and on screen it reads instantly as hip-hop, DJ culture, or a sudden stop.
Where can I get a vinyl scratch sound for a video?
Generate one rather than search for it. Describing the scratch you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact move your edit needs instead of the closest available clip. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom vinyl scratch sound effect?
Describe the move, how the record is handled, and how long it should run, then generate it. A prompt like "a record dragged back and forth under the needle, two gritty zips, about 1.5 seconds" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until the timing fits your cut.
What is the difference between a baby scratch and a backspin?
A baby scratch is the record pushed back and forth in a steady rhythm, the simplest move and the one most people picture. A backspin is the record spun backwards fast and released, used to yank a cut back to the top of a phrase. One is a texture you can sit under a moment; the other is a transition that resets it.
Can I use these vinyl scratch sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated rather than pulled from a shared library, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my vinyl scratch not sit right in the edit?
Usually it is timing against the beat rather than the sound itself. A scratch has to land on or just before a downbeat to read as a move rather than noise, so line the transient up with the grid. Generate the length you need and nudge it a few frames so the zip hits the beat, and it locks in far more often.
