Where can I make black and white stock footage with AI?
You can generate it in your browser on Morphic. Open the Text to Video tool, describe the subject, the light direction and the contrast you want, and the clip renders in minutes. Because the frame is composed for monochrome from the start, the tones land where you asked rather than wherever the colour happened to fall.
Why does my black and white shot look flat and grey?
The prompt removed colour without setting contrast. Colour was doing the separation, and taking it away leaves everything at a similar brightness. Name the brightest element and the darkest element in the frame and give the light a direction, and the image separates again without any grading.
Which subjects work best in monochrome?
Anything carried by texture, shape or a specular highlight: water, smoke, stone, fabric, weathered skin under raking light. The difficult case is two objects that differ only in hue while sitting at the same brightness, since they merge into one grey mass. Separate those with light or with distance rather than colour.
Can I use generated black and white footage commercially?
Yes. The clip comes from your prompt rather than a licence, so no rights-managed tier or per-project limit applies. Keep architecture generic and unplaceable, keep signage illegible, and there is nothing in frame that needs clearing before a client cut.
How is this different from running a colour clip through a black and white LUT?
A LUT converts a frame that was lit for colour, so the separation it needed is already gone by the time the conversion happens. Generating the shot in monochrome means the key position, the contrast ratio and the grain are part of the brief, and the image is built to read without colour at all.
