How do I draw an ice cube so it looks transparent?
Draw the far edges showing through the near face, and let anything behind the cube kink or shift where it passes through. Transparency is about what you can see through the object, not about colour.
What makes drawn ice look cold rather than like glass?
Irregularity. Ask for slightly rounded corners, a cloudy core, trapped bubbles and a wet surface. Glass is uniform and sharp edged, ice is not.
How do I draw the highlights and shadows on a cube?
Keep one small hard highlight on the top corner and let the cast shadow stay light with a bright caustic spot inside it, since light passes through. A heavy solid shadow makes the cube read as opaque.
