How do I get a blank body template to draw clothes on?
Ask for a flat even outline, front facing, with no facial features, no shading and a white background. That gives you a clean base you can print or trace over, and you can generate side and back views to match.
What are the standard body proportions for a sketch?
Most figure teaching uses an eight-head standing figure, with the halfway point at the hip rather than the waist. Ask for the ruled measure marks beside the sketch and you can check your own drawing against it.
How do I get a loose gesture rather than a finished drawing?
Say it directly: loose gesture, long sweeping strokes, construction marks left visible, edges not closed. Without that the result resolves every contour and loses the movement that makes a gesture sketch useful.
Can I use these sketches as drawing reference?
