How do I draw a mouse so it reads as a mouse?
Three features carry it: large round ears set high and wide, a pointed muzzle with the nose slightly downturned, and a tail as long as the body. Get those proportions right and almost any fur treatment will read. Shorten the tail or shrink the ears and it starts to look like a different rodent.
How do I draw fur without it looking like scribble?
Follow the growth direction, which sweeps back from the nose and down from the spine, and keep the strokes short and layered rather than long. Leave the fur broken at the silhouette edge instead of outlining the body, since a hard continuous outline is what makes fur look drawn on top.
How do I draw whiskers?
Whiskers come from a small patch on each side of the muzzle and fan outward with a gentle curve, longest at the top and shorter toward the chin. Draw them as light, tapering lines that lift off at the tip, and vary their angles. Evenly spaced parallel whiskers look artificial.
What changes when I draw a cartoon mouse instead?
Push the head bigger relative to the body, round every form, raise the eyes into the upper half of the skull and shorten the muzzle. The ears usually go larger and more circular. Keep the tail long, because that is the one realistic proportion the shape still needs to stay readable.
How do I get a plain background or a tighter crop?
Ask for a flat white background with no setting around the animal, then crop it on the Canvas. That gives you a clean silhouette for a sticker, a storybook spot illustration or a character sheet, where any background would have to be removed later anyway.
Can I keep the same mouse across a set of drawings?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of your first drawing, then apply it as you generate each new pose so the ear shape, fur treatment, proportions and palette stay consistent. That is what lets a turnaround sheet or a short picture-book sequence read as one animal rather than several.
