How do I draw a watermelon wedge so it looks solid?
The wedge is a slice out of a sphere, so the cut face is not a flat triangle. Both the top edge and the rind curve, and the two cut faces meet along a ridge that runs from the tip to the rind. Drawing that ridge and giving the two faces slightly different tones is what turns a flat shape into a volume.
How should I place the seeds?
Seeds sit in bands, not scattered at random. They run in two rough arcs roughly parallel to the rind, about a third of the way in from it, with the centre of the flesh mostly clear. Vary the angle each seed lies at and let a few overlap the edge of the band so the arrangement does not look stencilled.
How do I draw the rind stripes?
Treat them as bands wrapped around a sphere, so they narrow and crowd together as they approach the silhouette edge and are widest facing you. Give each stripe a soft wavering edge rather than a ruled one, and taper them into points at the blossom and stem ends.
What is the easiest watermelon drawing for a beginner?
A single slice seen face on. It is a half circle with a rind band inside it and a handful of seeds, so nothing depends on getting perspective right. Once that reads well, move to a wedge, which adds one cut ridge and forces you to think about the form in three dimensions.
How do I get a plain background for a fruit drawing?
