Tested time lapse prompts you can copy and run on Morphic. Each one explains what the parts do, so you can adapt rather than guess.

Cloud marches over a ridge

A locked off time lapse holds a bare ridge line against open sky, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no drift, so the ridge occupies exactly the same part of frame at the first frame and the last. The sky is completely clear at the start, cloud builds in from the left and streams over the ridge at compressed speed, and the sky is fully covered by the end with the ridge in flat shade. The ridge and the grass never move at normal speed. Hard sun early giving way to overcast, a palette of bleached grass, slate cloud and cold blue. 35mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about two hours. About 10 seconds, no loop. <wind>. No music.

A harbour drains to mud

A locked off time lapse holds a small tidal harbour, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no drift, so the quay wall and the moorings are in identical positions at the first frame and the last. The basin is full to the top of the quay steps with every boat afloat at the start, the water drops steadily, and by the end the basin is bare mud with every boat leaning on its keel. The boats never drift out of position. Flat overcast light throughout, a palette of grey mud, green water and painted hull colour. 35mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about six hours. About 12 seconds, no loop. <compressed water and gulls>. No music.

Rust blooms across steel

A locked off time lapse frames a bare rolled steel plate lying flat outdoors, the camera fixed overhead with no push and no rotation, so the same area of the plate is in frame at the first frame and the last. The surface is clean grey mill finish at the start, orange bloom starts at two edges and spreads inward across the whole face, and by the end the plate is entirely covered in deep rust with pitting visible. It never returns to bare metal. Flat daylight with a passing wet and dry cycle, a palette of mill grey, orange oxide and deep brown. 85mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about three weeks. About 10 seconds, no loop. <wind, occasional rain>. No music.

Edit prompt

A frame rises on a plot

A locked off time lapse holds a building plot from across the road, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no reframe, so the neighbouring houses and the kerb stay in identical positions at the first frame and the last. The plot holds only a bare concrete slab at the start, and by the end a complete timber frame with rafters and a ridge beam stands on it. Workers and a telehandler blur through the middle of the clip and none of them is in shot at the last frame. Sun crossing the sky through the clip, a palette of raw timber, grey slab and changing sky. 35mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about four days. About 12 seconds, no loop. <compressed site noise>. No music.

Edit prompt

Star trails over a hill

An ultra wide locked off time lapse holds a dark hill against a night sky, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no drift, so the hill silhouette is in exactly the same position at the first frame and the last. The stars do not move as points but draw continuous arcs across the sky, rotating around a fixed point above the left of the hill, so the sky holds short arcs at the start and long sweeping trails by the end. The hill stays black and still. No moon and no artificial light, a palette of near black, cold star white and deep blue. Anamorphic, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about three hours. About 12 seconds, no loop. <a cold wind, a distant owl>. No music.

Edit prompt

Frost creeps across a pane

A locked off time lapse frames a small pane of cold window glass, the camera fixed square to it with no push and no rack, so the same area of glass is in frame at the first frame and the last. The pane is completely clear at the start, feathered frost crystals start at the bottom left corner and grow outward in branching fronds, and by the end they cover the whole pane and the view beyond is fully obscured. The crystals never retreat. Cold blue daylight outside with a dim interior, a palette of ice white, cold blue and near black. 100mm macro, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about two hours. About 10 seconds, no loop. <deep quiet, a faint wind>. No music.

Edit prompt

A candle burns down

A locked off time lapse frames a tall cream candle in a brass holder, the camera fixed with no push and no tilt, so the holder base stays on exactly the same line at the first frame and the last. The candle stands at full height at the start and has burned down to a short stub about a fifth of that height by the end, with wax having run down one side and set into a ridge. The flame stays lit for the whole clip and the candle never gutters out. The flame is the only light source in an otherwise dark frame, a palette of near black, cream wax and warm amber. 85mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about six hours. About 10 seconds, no loop. <a very quiet room>. No music.

Edit prompt

A shadow crosses a square

A locked off time lapse holds a paved square from a first floor window, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no reframe, so the paving pattern and the fountain are in identical positions at the first frame and the last. The shadow of the tower on the left covers only the near edge of the square at the start and has swept across to reach the fountain by the end, moving in the smooth compressed way that a real shadow never does. Pedestrians blur across the paving throughout. Hard sun in a clear sky, a palette of pale limestone, deep shadow and one green awning. 35mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about three hours. About 10 seconds, no loop. <a distant square ambience>. No music.

Edit prompt

Ice melts to water

A locked off time lapse frames a tumbler holding three clear ice cubes on a windowsill, the camera fixed with no push and no rack, so the glass sits in exactly the same place at the first frame and the last. The cubes fill most of the glass at the start, shrink and settle against each other, and by the end no ice remains at all and the glass holds only water with condensation running down the outside. The glass never moves. Warm window light from the left, a palette of clear glass, cold white ice and warm sill wood. 85mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about forty minutes. About 10 seconds, no loop. <a quiet room>. No music.

Edit prompt

A poppy opens

A locked off time lapse frames a single poppy bud against a dark background, the camera fixed with no push and no drift, so the stem stays in exactly the same position at the first frame and the last. The bud is fully closed and hairy at the start, splits and releases its crumpled petals, and by the end the flower is fully open and flat with the black centre and stamens clearly visible. It never closes again. Soft directional light from the left, a palette of scarlet petal, green stem and near black. 100mm macro, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about six hours. About 10 seconds, no loop. <a very quiet room>. No music.

Edit prompt

A pear collapses

A locked off time lapse frames a single ripe pear standing on a slate tile, the camera fixed with no push and no rotation, so the tile edge stays on exactly the same line at the first frame and the last. The pear is firm and full at the start, darkens and softens, and by the end it has collapsed into a shrunken dry brown husk about half its original height that stays standing. It never falls over and never leaves the tile. Even north light with a dark background, a palette of green gold, deepening brown and cold grey. 85mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about three weeks. About 10 seconds, no loop. <deep quiet>. No music.

Edit prompt

A market builds and clears

A locked off time lapse holds a cobbled market square from an upper window, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no reframe, so the buildings and the cobbles are in identical positions at the first frame and the last. The square is completely empty at the start, fills with striped stalls and streaked shoppers through the middle, and is completely empty again at the end with only a sweeper crossing. No stall remains at the last frame. Sun crossing the sky from low left to low right through the clip, a palette of grey cobble, striped canvas and changing warm light. 24mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about eight hours. About 12 seconds, no loop. <a compressed market wash>. No music.

Edit prompt

Sunset to night on a skyline

An ultra wide locked off time lapse holds a river skyline, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no drift, so every tower is in the same position at the first frame and the last. The sky is a hot orange sunset with the towers dark at the start, and by the end it is deep blue night with the towers carrying hundreds of lit windows that came on gradually through the middle of the clip. The buildings themselves never move. A palette of hot orange, deep indigo and warm window amber. Anamorphic, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about ninety minutes. About 12 seconds, no loop. <a distant city hum>. No music.

Edit prompt

Commuters smear a concourse

A locked off time lapse looks down on a station concourse from a balcony, the camera fixed with no push, no tilt and no reframe, so the floor pattern, the departure board and the columns stay perfectly sharp and in identical positions at the first frame and the last. The people crossing below move so fast that they read as continuous streaks rather than as individuals, and the concourse is sparse at the start and dense with streaks by the end. Cool overhead lighting with daylight from a glass roof, a palette of grey terrazzo, cold white and smeared coat colour. 24mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about one hour. About 10 seconds, no loop. <a compressed concourse rumble>. No music.

Edit prompt

Dough rises over the rim

A locked off time lapse frames a glass bowl of bread dough from the side, the camera fixed with no push and no drift, so the bowl rim stays on exactly the same line at the first frame and the last. The dough sits well below the rim as a dense ball at the start, expands smoothly with bubbles forming against the glass, and has domed above the rim by the end without ever collapsing back. The bowl never moves. Warm kitchen light from the right, a palette of pale dough, clear glass and warm oak. 85mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about ninety minutes. About 10 seconds, no loop. <a quiet kitchen>. No music.

Edit prompt

A hyperlapse down a colonnade

An ultra wide hyperlapse travels forward along a stone colonnade, the camera advancing a fixed distance between each frame rather than moving continuously, so the columns strobe past in discrete steps and never blur into a smooth track. The far end of the colonnade is a small bright arch at the first frame and fills the frame at the last. The centre of the far arch stays locked in the middle of frame throughout, with no pan and no roll. Hard side light through the columns throwing rhythmic bars across the floor, a palette of warm sandstone, deep shadow and one bright arch. Anamorphic, one continuous take. About 10 seconds, no loop. <a compressed stone reverb, footsteps>. No music.

Edit prompt

Light trails through a junction

A locked off time lapse looks down on a city junction at night from a rooftop, the camera fixed with no push, no tilt and no reframe, so the road markings and the buildings stay razor sharp and identical at the first frame and the last. No individual vehicle is ever visible: the traffic reads only as continuous red and white streaks drawing along the lanes, sparse at the start and dense across every approach by the end. The buildings never move. Sodium street lighting and dark buildings, a palette of near black, red tail streaks and cold white headlight. 35mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about forty minutes. About 10 seconds, a clean loop. <a compressed traffic wash>. No music.

Edit prompt

Fog fills a valley

An ultra wide locked off time lapse holds a valley from a ridge above, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no drift, so the peaks either side are in identical positions at the first frame and the last. The valley floor is completely clear with a river and a village visible at the start, fog pours in over the low col on the left and fills the valley steadily, and by the end only the two peaks stand above an unbroken white surface. The fog never retreats. Low sun above the fog line, a palette of cold white, dark ridge and warm gold rim. Anamorphic, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about ninety minutes. About 10 seconds, no loop. <wind>. No music.

Edit prompt

Snow buries a bench

A locked off time lapse frames a park bench against dark railings, the camera fixed with no push, no pan and no reframe, so the bench sits in exactly the same place at the first frame and the last. The bench is completely clear of snow at the start, snow accumulates on the slats and the armrests, and by the end the seat is buried under an even layer deep enough that the gaps between the slats are gone. The bench never moves and the snow never melts back. Flat grey daylight fading slightly through the clip, a palette of cold white, wet iron black and dim green. 50mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about five hours. About 8 seconds, no loop. <wind, muffled distance>. No music.

Edit prompt

A puddle evaporates

A locked off time lapse frames a shallow puddle on a hot tarmac forecourt, the camera fixed overhead with no push and no rotation, so the same patch of tarmac is in frame at the first frame and the last. The puddle covers a wide irregular area with the sky reflected in it at the start, its edges retreat inward steadily, and by the end no standing water remains at all and only a pale dried mineral ring marks where it was. It never refills. Hard high sun with a hard shadow off a nearby bollard, a palette of grey tarmac, sky blue reflection and chalk white. 50mm, one continuous take, time lapse compression of about two hours. About 8 seconds, no loop. <a dry wind, distant traffic>. No music.

자주 묻는 질문

How do I use these time lapse prompts?
Pick any prompt, copy it, and paste it into Morphic. Each one opens with the frame and the thing that changes across it, so the model reads the passage of time before the subject. Change the location and the compression still works.
Why does my time lapse just look like fast footage?
Because the prompt asks for speed rather than for change. A time lapse needs a start state and an end state that could not both exist in the same minute: an empty square that fills, a shadow that crosses a wall, a green tomato that reddens. Name both ends and the compression follows.
Should the camera move in a time lapse?
Usually not. A locked frame is what lets a viewer measure the change against something fixed, which is why most of these prompts nail the camera down. The exception is a hyperlapse, where the camera travels between frames, and there the move has to be named as travel rather than as a pan.
How long should a time lapse clip be?
Eight to twelve seconds. Shorter than eight and a slow change such as a shadow or a cloud bank has no room to read; much longer and the clip outlasts its single idea. Say the duration in the prompt so the rate of change is scaled to it.
Can I use the videos commercially?
The prompts here describe original locations and fictional subjects, so what you generate is yours to use. Avoid prompting for real logos, trademarks, or a living person's likeness, and keep your final use in line with Morphic's terms.
