Text message sound effects

A message alert is two seconds that an audience hears hundreds of times. Describe the shape you want, bright and rising or soft and round, and Morphic builds it.

  • Set the brightness, the shape and the length of the alert yourself
  • An alert nobody else is shipping, rather than the default everyone recognises
  • Clean short audio ready to drop into a build or a timeline

Message alerts for apps, edits, and animation

Two-note arrival

Glassy, bright and rising, with a tail short enough to stay out of the way. This is the shape most products land on, because a rise reads as something arriving rather than something ending.

Soft pop

Low, round and gone almost immediately. Reach for it when the alert has to be noticed without interrupting, which is most of the time inside a chat that is already open.

Wooden double tap

Two dry hollow knocks with a faint pitch behind them. Wood reads as friendly where glass reads as corporate, which is a decision worth making deliberately.

Single glass ping

One high strike with a fine ringing tail. It cuts through a busy mix better than any of the others, which makes it the right pick when the alert has to be heard over a room.

Sent swish

A short airy sweep upward that thins out to nothing. Pairing it with a falling arrival sound gives a conversation an obvious direction in audio alone.

Stack of arrivals

Eight pips landing over each other at uneven spacing. The unevenness is what makes it feel like people typing rather than a machine counting.

Ways to use text message sound effects

Land the frame where a message arrives

A rising two-note alert is read as new information instantly, whether it lands over a phone screen insert, an animated shot or a game notification panel.

Carry a scene where nobody says anything

Messages piling up over six seconds hold a silent shot and build pressure at the same time. Podcast drama gets the same escalation with no picture at all.

Set the character of the app on screen

Wood sounds warm and human, glass sounds precise and expensive. Choosing between them tells an audience what kind of product they are looking at before any interface is legible.

Put somebody at the other end of the conversation

A rising swish on send implies a person waiting who is never shown or named. Games and animation use the pairing of send and arrival to stage a whole exchange.

자주 묻는 질문

How do I make a text message sound effect?
Describe the number of notes, the direction of the pitch and the material. Two glassy notes rising is a completely different alert from one soft falling pop, and those three details decide the result far more than the word message does.
What makes a message alert sound like an arrival?
A rising pitch. An audience reads an upward move as something appearing and a downward move as something closing or failing, which is why almost every notification climbs and almost every error tone falls.
How do I design an alert that does not get annoying?
Keep the tail short and the top end gentle. A cue that is heard hundreds of times a day wears out through its ring, not its volume, so a quick clean fall is easier to live with than a bright note that keeps sounding.
How do I get several messages arriving at once?
Say how many, and say they overlap at uneven spacing across a set number of seconds. Asking for messages in general returns a single representative pip, and asking for evenly spaced ones returns something that sounds like a countdown.
Should sending and receiving sound different?
Yes, and the simplest split is direction. Let the outgoing cue sweep upward and away while the incoming one lands and settles, so an audience follows a conversation with the screen out of frame entirely.
Can I use generated message alerts commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. It is the whole point for product teams, since an alert becomes part of a brand once it ships and cannot sensibly be a clip other apps are also using.
