How do I draw a die in perspective?
Start with a square for the front face, then run the top and side edges back toward two vanishing points rather than keeping them parallel. Ask for a three-quarter view with three faces visible and the perspective sorts itself out.
Which numbers go on which faces?
Opposite faces always total seven, so one is opposite six, two is opposite five and three is opposite four. Say that in the prompt and the three visible faces will be a combination that can actually exist.
How do I draw the pips so they look recessed?
A pip is a small dish, not a dot. Ask for a dark crescent on the side nearest the light and a faint highlight opposite it, and the pips sit into the surface instead of printing on top of it.
How do I show dice in motion?
Ask for one die drawn sharply and the others softened, with short motion arcs behind them and shadows that do not touch the cubes. Blurring all of them equally reads as a mistake rather than movement.
Can I draw polyhedral dice?
Yes. Name the number of faces you want, four, six, eight, ten, twelve or twenty, and ask for each flat face outlined in even line. They are easier to read as line drawings than as shaded solids.
