How do I draw seal fur without drawing every hair?
Ask for short directional strokes that follow the body form, dense along the spine and fading to plain tone on the belly. A few individual hairs at the silhouette edge finish the illusion and the rest stays as texture.
How do I get seal whiskers to look right?
Draw them as long confident single lines that spring from small pits on the muzzle and curve outward, never as straight spokes. Saying the whiskers start from stippled pits gets the muzzle texture at the same time.
What makes a seal drawing look cute rather than realistic?
Round the body, enlarge the eyes, shorten the muzzle and drop the fur detail in favour of a flat fill. Adding a thick even outline pushes it further toward a sticker or cartoon read.
How do I draw a seal in the water?
Set a single horizontal surface line and let the value change across it, lighter above, darker below. The body can sit half hidden under that line, which is quicker to draw than the whole animal and reads as depth.
What is the difference between drawing a seal and a sea lion?
A seal has no visible ear flap and moves on its belly, so the front flippers are short. A sea lion has small external ears and can prop itself up on longer front flippers. Naming which one you want keeps the shape consistent.
