Wow sound effect

The one-word reaction, delivered how your cut needs it: astonished, deadpan, drawn out, or a whole room at once.

  • Choose the delivery: astonished, flat, whispered, or a full room
  • A reading recorded for your cut, not a clip lifted from a film
  • Clean speech audio that sits under your own dialogue without clashing
An open mouth mid-exclamation in hard rim light, the rest of the face falling into shadow

Wow deliveries for edits, shorts, and streams

Astonished wow

Rising, open, and genuinely surprised. The default reading, and the one that works over a reveal without any setup around it.

Deadpan wow

Flat, level, and unimpressed. The absence of energy is the joke, so it lands where the astonished take would be far too much.

Drawn-out wow

Held and sliding downward as it fades. The extra length turns a punctuation mark into a reaction, which is what a slow reveal needs.

Whispered wow

Breathy, with no voiced tone underneath. It reads as private rather than performed, which suits a close shot far better than a shouted take.

Child wow

Higher and lighter, with the vowel opened wide. It reads young with no visual help at all, which is exactly what an animated cut often needs.

Room of wows

A scattered group reacting at once, not in unison. The uneven timing is what makes it read as a real room rather than a stacked take.

Ways to use a wow sound effect

Punctuate a reveal on the exact frame

A short rising reading lands where you place it and gets out of the way. That is why the astonished take is the one most reveals use.

Fill a pause without reaching for music

A drawn-out reading covers a held shot on its own. It works over a game cutscene or an animated beat as readily as it does in a talking-head edit.

Set the register before anyone speaks

The flat reading tells an audience the scene is dry within a second and a half. The delighted child reading sets an entirely different film from the same word.

Put a crowd in the room without filming one

A scattered group reaction implies an audience nobody has to shoot. One overlapping take does what a wide shot of extras would cost a day to get.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What is the wow sound effect?
A single spoken exclamation used to mark surprise, admiration, or sarcasm in an edit. It carries so much meaning for one syllable because the delivery does all the work: the same word reads as awe, boredom, or mockery depending only on how the pitch moves.
How do I make a wow sound effect?
Describe the delivery rather than the word. Say whether the pitch rises or falls, how long the vowel is held, how much energy is behind it, and whether it is voiced or whispered. Those four choices produce four completely different reactions from one syllable.
Why does my wow sound sarcastic when I did not want it to?
Because the pitch is falling. A descending reading reads as unimpressed almost automatically, so ask for a rise across the word and a brief hold at the end. Genuine astonishment goes up, and sarcasm comes back down.
Should I use a single voice or a group?
A single voice reads as a character reacting and a group reads as an audience reacting. If the shot has one person in it, stay with one voice, because a crowd under a close-up tells the audience there are people present who are not in frame.
Why does a generated wow sit better in a mix than a downloaded clip?
Because a downloaded reaction carries the room it was recorded in, and that room never matches your scene. A generated take is dry and close, so you can place it in your own space with reverb rather than fighting somebody else's.
Can I use a generated wow sound commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Generating an original reading also avoids the licensing problem that comes with lifting a line out of a film or a show.
