Questions fréquentes

How do I draw boots so they do not look flat?
Build the shape from the sole up. The sole is a wedge seen in perspective, the foot sits on top of it and the shaft rises from the ankle. Most flat-looking boot drawings have a sole drawn as a single line instead of a solid block with thickness.
How do I draw the creases in leather boots?
Creases gather where the foot bends, across the top of the toe box and around the ankle. Ask for a few deep curved folds there and leave the rest of the leather smooth. Even creasing across the whole boot reads as fabric, not leather.
How do I draw laces and eyelets without it turning to mush?
Draw the eyelet pairs first as evenly spaced dots, then cross the laces between them. Ask for the top two laces loose and the rest pulled tight. Detailing every crossing equally is what makes lacing look like scribble.
What angle is best for a boots drawing?
A three-quarter view shows the toe box, the side profile and a little of the sole all at once, so the boot reads as solid. A straight side view is better if you want a clean fashion flat for a layout.
Can I get a boots drawing as a clean outline for a print?
Ask for flat vector line art with an even stroke and stitching marked as dashes on a plain white background. That version scales down for a label, a card or a small icon without the interior lines closing up.
Can I draw a matching set of footwear in one style?
Yes. Use Style Transfer to hold the medium and line weight, then generate a work boot, an ankle boot and a rain boot separately. Only the subject changes, so the set reads as one consistent sheet.
