How do I draw a cube?
Draw a square, then a second square offset up and to the side, and join the four corners with straight lines. For true perspective, make the side edges run toward a vanishing point.
How do I shade a cube?
Pick one light direction and give each visible face its own value: the face toward the light lightest, the top middle and the far side darkest. Add a cast shadow on the opposite side.
What is the difference between perspective and isometric cube drawings?
In perspective, parallel edges meet at vanishing points, so the cube shrinks with distance. In isometric, parallel edges stay parallel and all three faces are the same size.
Why do artists practice drawing cubes?
A cube teaches perspective, proportion and how light falls on flat planes. Once a cube looks solid, boxes, buildings and furniture become much easier.
