What is the correct order of rainbow colours?
From the outside of the arc inward it runs red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Red is always on the top edge. In a double rainbow the fainter outer arc reverses that order, with violet on the outside.
How do I draw a rainbow for kids, step by step?
Draw the outer red arc first and keep it wide and shallow, then trace six more arcs inside it, each one following the same curve. Colour outward to inward in order, then add a cloud at each end to hide where the bands stop.
How do I make a rainbow arc that is not lopsided?
Every band has to share one centre point, which sits below the page. Sketch the biggest arc first and keep the bands an equal width apart all the way round. If the gaps widen at one end, the curve has drifted.
Should rainbow bands have hard edges or soft ones?
Hard flat bands suit a poster, a chart or a drawing for younger children. Soft blended bands with the arc fading out before it reaches the ground look far more like a real rainbow, which only ever appears against rain.
