How do I draw a seashell step by step?
Block the outer silhouette first, then find the hinge or the tip, because everything radiates from it. Draw the main ribs or whorls next as guides, then fill in the smaller detail. Shade the grooves rather than the ridges.
How do I draw a spiral shell that actually looks right?
Draw the central axis first and put the widest whorl at the bottom, each one above it smaller and tilted slightly the same way. The whorls should never be evenly sized. Adding the opening last keeps it from throwing the spiral off.
How do I shade a shell so the ribs read?
