Questions fréquentes

How do I draw fleece without drawing every curl?
Shape the mass first, then texture only the edges. Draw the whole fleece as one rounded silhouette with a looping outline, add curl detail along the top edge and around the chest where light catches, and leave the middle of the body almost empty. Texturing evenly across the whole animal flattens it.
How do I draw a sheep face?
The muzzle is narrow and long compared with the width of the fleece behind it, and the eyes sit high on the sides of the head rather than facing forward, with a horizontal pupil. Keep the face and the lower legs free of wool so they contrast against the mass, which is what makes the fleece read as fleece.
What is different about drawing a lamb?
The legs are long relative to the body and the fleece is short, so the animal has a clear waist and visible joints that an adult ewe does not. The head is proportionally larger and the ears sit further out to the sides. Keeping the fleece tight is what separates a lamb from a small sheep.
How do I draw a flock so it has depth?
Draw the front two or three animals fully, then reduce everything behind them. The middle group loses its fleece detail and keeps only its outline, and the back group becomes flat grey shapes. Overlapping them and shrinking each row does more for depth than shading any single sheep.
How do I get a plain background for a sheep drawing?
Ask for a flat white background with no field or setting behind the animal, then crop it on the Canvas. The looping fleece outline is the whole silhouette, so keeping it clean matters if the drawing is going into a card, a worksheet or a print layout.
Can I keep a set of farm animal drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the sheep drawing, then apply it as you generate the cow, the pig and the goat so the line weight, the texture treatment and the palette stay the same across the group. It also keeps the fleece and hair approaches consistent, which is the detail that usually drifts.
