Ways to use a cymbal sound effect
Keep a montage ticking without a full track
A tight hi-hat pattern carries a long montage with no melody to fight the voiceover, in a vlog, an explainer or a podcast segment.

Set a smoky late-night jazz mood
A ride cymbal pattern under the opening shot sets a dim jazz club mood before the band appears, in film, animation and narrative games.

Let a rising swell hint at what is coming
A mallet swell growing off screen tells the audience something big is about to be revealed before the camera turns, in trailers, games and radio.

Questions fréquentes
What is a cymbal sound effect?
A cymbal sound effect is a hit or pattern from a thin metal cymbal: a ride, a hi-hat, a crash, a mallet swell, clash cymbals or finger cymbals. Each has its own shimmer and decay, so the cymbal you pick sets the energy of a moment.
Where can I get cymbal sounds for a video?
Type the cymbal and the playing style, and Morphic generates it. You skip the search for a hi-hat at the right speed or a swell at the right length, and every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it.
How do I make a custom cymbal sound effect?
Say which cymbal, what strikes it and how it is played, then generate. A prompt like "a suspended cymbal rolled with felt mallets, a shimmering wash rising into a swell" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can change the length or brightness.
What is the difference between a ride, a hi-hat and a crash cymbal?
A ride is a large cymbal played in a steady pattern with a clear ping. A hi-hat is two small cymbals on a pedal, giving tight ticks when closed and a sizzle when open. A crash is struck for a single loud accent that rings out.
Can I use these cymbal sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my cymbal sound not sit right in the edit?
Most often the cymbal tail is cut too early or runs into the next line. Let accents ring out to their natural end, or fade them over the next cut. Patterns sit better a little lower than you expect, because cymbals carry far in the top end.
