The creak that gives him away on the stairs
One board complaining under his weight turns a slow approach tense, and lands just as well in a horror short as in a point-and-click game.

Footsteps on Wood
The hollow knock and creak of a wooden floor that puts a walker indoors. Generate the footsteps your edit needs, from a slow creaking approach to a heavy stomp, and drop them clean under the shot.
- Choose the floor: springy old boards, a solid stage, a hollow porch. The wood you pick changes the room as much as the walk does.
- Cut for your production, so your hallway does not creak with the exact take three other channels used this month.
- Dry and close-recorded with no room echo baked in, so they take your own reverb instead of arriving with someone else's.
Wood footsteps for video, games, and animation
Slow walk
Even, unhurried footfalls with a warm knock under each heel, the plain interior take for a character crossing a room.
Creaking boards
Steps riding on top of long groaning flex, where the floor answers back. The take for old houses and anything about to go wrong.
Running
Hard, fast strikes with the boards ringing between them, for someone bolting down a hallway or across a stage.
Heavy stomp
One deliberate slam of a full foot, heavy enough to rattle whatever is on the shelf. Good for anger and for cartoon emphasis.
Barefoot steps
Soft skin on wood, tacky and quiet, with no heel click at all, intimate scenes, a child sneaking, or someone just out of bed.
High heels
Sharp heel strikes with a bright click and a fast decay, instantly recognisable as someone dressed and moving with intent.

When an empty house needs something happening in it
Rooms shot empty sound dead; a few steps crossing wood keep a property walkthrough or a documentary pause alive between lines.

An old attic, before the camera shows you where you are
Bare boards under a heel put a scene in an old house, a theatre, or a cabin long before any establishing shot explains the location.

Questions fréquentes
What is a footsteps on wood sound effect?
It is a recorded set of steps on a hard wooden floor, used on screen to move a character through an indoor scene and place them on a real surface. Depending on the footwear and pace it reads as a soft barefoot pad, a knocking walk, or sharp clicking heels, so the take you choose shapes how the walker comes across.
Where can I get footsteps on wood for a video?
Generate them rather than search for them. Describing the walk you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact pace your edit needs instead of the closest available clip. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom wood footstep sound effect?
Describe the footwear, the pace, and whether the boards creak, then generate it. A prompt like "a person walking in hard high heels on a wooden floor, sharp bright clicks, about four seconds" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until the steps match your shot.
How do I get the boards to creak?
Ask for it directly and name the material as old. A prompt that specifies "old wooden floorboards, slow steps with the boards creaking and groaning under the weight" gives you the creak on top of the footfalls, where a plain "wooden floor" tends to return a cleaner, newer-sounding knock.
Can I use these footstep sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated rather than pulled from a shared library, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why do my wood footsteps not sit right in the edit?
Usually the pace or the sync is off rather than the sound itself. Steps that do not land on the feet on screen read as pasted on, and a walk rhythm laid under a run feels wrong. Generate the footsteps at the pace the picture calls for and align the first footfall, and the rest falls into place.
