Questions fréquentes
What is an old phone sound effect?
It is any sound from a vintage handset telephone: the bell ring, the rotary dial, the clunk of the handset and the line tones. This page keeps to the physical sounds of the object.
Where can I get old phone sounds for a video?
Describe the action and generate it, rather than trying to cut one ring out of a long clip. The sounds on this page came from the prompts printed beside them, so adapt any one for your period.
How do I make a custom old phone sound?
Name the part that makes the sound, the bell, the dial or the handset, then the count and the material. "Two quick metallic double-rings then a pause" gives Morphic a clear pattern.
How is an old phone ring different from a modern ring tone?
A vintage ring is a mechanical clapper striking real bells, hard and metallic with uneven timing. A modern ringtone is a sampled melody or tone. Ask for "clapper" and "bells" to get the mechanical kind.
Can I use these old phone sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated, you avoid a clip every period film already uses.
Why does my phone ring sound electronic?
If a prompt leaves out the mechanism, you tend to get a digital beep. Say "bell", "clapper" and "metallic", and keep the pattern simple, two rings then a pause.
