Ways to use a plug sound effect
Hold a tense pause with no music
A loose plug buzzing and sputtering carries a long, still shot of a dark room, keeping a thriller video, a horror game or a podcast on edge.

Show an old house with bad wiring
A spark popping at the socket tells the viewer the wiring is old and unsafe before anything goes wrong, in drama, animation or game levels.

Hint that someone pulled the plug
A plug yanked from the wall just before the screen goes dark says someone cut the power on purpose, without showing who, in video, comedy sketches and games.

Questions fréquentes
What is a plug sound effect?
It is the sound of a plug and socket in use: pins scraping and snapping in, a quick pull back out, a spark at a faulty outlet or a loose plug buzzing. It is a small sound, so it is recorded close and placed right on the frame the hand moves.
Where can I get plug sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the plug and the action takes less time than digging through a stock library, and the take is made for your scene. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom plug sound effect?
Describe the plug, the socket and what happens, then generate it. A prompt like "a plug pushed firmly into a wall socket, a sharp plastic scrape and a solid snap" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a plug, a switch and a spark sound?
A plug sound is the scrape and snap of pins seating or sliding out, a switch is a single hard clack with no scrape, and a spark is an electric pop and fizz. Use the plug when a hand is at the socket on screen, and add the spark only when something is meant to go wrong.
Can I use these plug sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my plug sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the plug is too loud for a small hand movement, or the snap lands before the pins meet the socket. Bring the level down close to the rest of the room and line the snap up with the frame where the plug stops moving.
