Scream sound effects

Short shocks, long horror screams, a crowd reacting at once, and a cry heard through a wall. Name the voice and the length and Morphic builds it.

  • Name the voice, the intensity, and how long it runs
  • A take made for your scene, not a shared stock clip
  • Clean audio that cuts hard where you need it

Scream types for film, games, and animation

Short shock

0:02

One hard cry cut off fast. It lands on a frame and leaves no tail, which is what makes it usable for a jump rather than a scene.

Long horror scream

0:05

Held and rising, then breaking into a rasp. The break is what stops it sounding performed, because a real scream loses control.

Modifier le prompt

Male shout

0:03

Chesty and rough rather than high. Male alarm sits lower and reads as anger or effort where a scream reads as fear.

Modifier le prompt

Crowd reaction

0:05

Overlapping cries rising then falling away. A crowd resolves, which a single scream does not, so it can carry a whole beat.

Scream through a wall

0:04

Muffled with the top gone. It puts the event in another room, which is almost always more frightening than showing it.

Modifier le prompt

Distant scream

0:04

Thin and far off with a faint reflection. Distance makes it ambiguous, which is exactly what a scene sometimes needs.

Ways to use scream sound effects

Land a shock on the exact frame

A short cry cut off fast has no tail, so it hits precisely and lets you cut straight out of it.

Let a crowd carry the aftermath

Overlapping cries rising then falling fills the seconds after an event, so a scene can stay on a face while the room reacts.

Make distance do the work

A thin far-off cry is ambiguous, so an audience leans in to decide what they heard rather than being told.

Put an event in the next room

A muffled cry through a wall is almost always stronger than showing what happened, and it costs one clip.

Questions fréquentes

What makes a scream sound real rather than performed?
Losing control. A real scream breaks into a rasp as the voice gives out, while a performed one holds a clean tone throughout. Asking for that break at the end is the single most effective detail in the prompt.
How do I choose between a short and a long scream?
By what the scene needs. A short cry cut off fast lands on a frame and lets you cut straight out, which suits a jump. A long scream fills the seconds after an event and needs picture to play under it.
Why does a scream through a wall work so well?
Because the audience has to imagine what caused it. Muffling removes the detail that would tell them, so they supply something worse than anything you could show, and it costs a single clip to do.
How do male and female screams differ on screen?
Register changes the meaning. A higher cry reads as fear, while a lower chesty shout reads as anger or effort. Choosing by what the character feels rather than by who they are gets a better result.
How do I make a crowd react rather than one person?
Ask for overlapping cries and gasps that rise then fall away. A crowd resolves as people stop, which lets the sound carry a whole beat, whereas a single scream ends and leaves silence behind it.
Can I use these scream sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each take is generated rather than pulled from a shared catalogue, you also avoid the clip already in a hundred other horror films.
