Wood creak

The long dry squeal of a floorboard under a slow step, the groan of an old chair taking weight and the rhythmic creak of a rocking chair. Describe the creak and Morphic generates it clean.

  • Ask for a floorboard, an old chair or a straining beam, and get that exact wood creak
  • A creak built for your haunted stairs and the footstep on the third board
  • Arrives as clean, isolated audio you download and drop under the footstep in your edit

Questions fréquentes

What is a wood creak sound effect?
It is the squeal or groan wood makes when it flexes under weight, as fibres and joints rub against each other. Floorboards, chairs, stairs, beams and trees all creak, and the sound is one of the quickest ways to tell an audience a place is old, someone is moving, or something is about to give way.
Where can I get wood creak sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the wood and what is pressing on it takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact sound your shot needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom wood creak sound effect?
Describe the wooden object, the weight on it and the shape of the creak, then generate it. A prompt like "a wooden floorboard creaking under one slow footstep, a long dry squeal of old timber" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a wood creak, a door creak and a rope creak?
A wood creak comes from timber flexing under weight, like floorboards, chairs, stairs or beams. A door creak is mostly the hinge, a metal squeal as the door swings. A rope creak is fibre stretching and rubbing against wood or metal under tension, often on ships, swings and rigging.
Can I use these wood creak sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my wood creak sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the creak does not follow the weight on screen. Start it the moment the foot lands or the body settles, keep it close and dry for an interior, and vary each creak in a sequence, because the same squeal repeated on every step sounds pasted on.
