Keep the flame as the lightest shape on the page, with a small blue base and a white core. Darken everything around it, then blend a soft halo outward so the light seems to spill onto nearby surfaces.
How do I draw melting wax on a candle?
Draw drips as rounded tubes that thicken at the bottom, each with a highlight on the side facing the flame. Let a few pool at the base and cool into flat puddles.
Which paper works best for a candle drawing?
Dark or toned paper makes the glow easier, because you only add light. On white paper, charcoal or dense graphite around the flame gives the same contrast.
