How do I draw a clock face that is actually round?

Draw the circle from the shoulder in one loose sweep rather than building it from short strokes, then correct it by rotating the paper and checking the curve at four points. A circle drawn cautiously always comes out egg-shaped at the top.

How do I space the numerals evenly around the dial?

Rule a vertical and a horizontal through the centre to place twelve, three, six and nine first. Then split each quarter into three with two more marks. Doing the quarters before the hours is what keeps the spacing regular all the way round.

How do I draw a clock at an angle without the dial looking wrong?

The face becomes an ellipse, and the ellipse axis stays at right angles to the direction the clock is facing, not to the edge of the paper. Keep the ends of the ellipse rounded rather than pointed, and the numerals compress toward the near and far edges.

What time should I set the hands to?

Something asymmetric. Ten past ten is the conventional choice because both hands rise away from the centre and frame the maker name without covering it. Hands at six o clock make a single vertical line that visually splits the dial in half.

How do I get a plain background or a tight crop on a clock drawing?

Ask for a flat white background with no wall or room around the clock, then crop it on the Canvas. That keeps the silhouette clean for a logo, a label or a print, and it also lets you crop in on the dial alone from a full-case drawing.

Can I keep a set of clock drawings in one style?
