What are easy colour drawings for kids to make?
Scenery with two hills and a sun, a house with a path, a parrot, a butterfly and a fruit bowl are all built from a few shapes. Ask for a thick outline and flat bright colour so a child can copy and fill it.
Which colouring medium should I ask for?
Crayon gives waxy visible strokes, poster paint gives flat solid blocks, oil pastel smears and blends, coloured pencil shows fine strokes, and watercolour bleeds softly. Naming one changes the whole feel of the drawing.
How do I keep the colours bright rather than muddy?
Limit the palette and keep the shapes separate. Ask for four or five flat colours with a dark outline between them, and say no blending. Mixing too many colours in one area is what dulls a kids drawing.
