What makes a drawing hard to do?

What should I draw when I want a challenge?

How do I get dense cross-hatching instead of smooth shading?

Say tone built from overlapping line only, no blending, and name the hatch direction so it turns with the form. Adding a layer count, such as three passes at different angles, tightens it further.

How do I draw reflective surfaces like glass and metal?

Both need hard edges between very dark and very light, with almost no mid tone. Ask for sharp-edged highlights, a dark core reflection and the surrounding scene bending across the surface.
