How do I draw clouds so they look solid?
Give them a lit top and a flat shaded base, and keep the base edge harder than the top. Clouds read as volume when the light comes from one clear direction rather than everywhere.
How do I get depth into a sky drawing?
Make the clouds smaller, flatter and paler as they approach the horizon, and keep the biggest shapes overhead. Naming that in the prompt does more for depth than any amount of detail.
Where should the horizon sit in a sky drawing?
Low, usually around the bottom fifth, so the sky is the subject. Putting it near the middle splits the picture and makes neither the sky nor the ground feel important.
How do I draw a night sky without it going flat?
